SAVE THE LAKEWOOD GARRY OAKS

It is imperative that zoning and development processes are used to protect trees, especially the Garry oak trees. Emphasis must be on combating global warming and protecting the environment. There should be a moratorium on warehouses in Lakewood.

Loved the oak landscapes of Lakewood through my early years in the 60’s. Sad to see the last vestiges of it still being destroyed.

It is well known that trees provide many benefits to urban residents. We cannot afford to cut down any more.

There have go to be better infill places to build the proposed development. Islands of trees and shade are and will be in the future warming climate, highly important to a livable and sustainable lifestyle. Save these trees! (ps- I grew up on Interlaaken and went to Lakes)

We need to start taking Climate Change seriously. Warehouses and parking lots do NOT filter our ground water, purify our air, sequester carbon, and produce oxygen!

I did some maintenance work on a Garry Oaks woodland in South Tacoma a few years ago. I definitely feel like these are special trees and need to be saved.

These trees are native to our bioregion and should be protected and nurtured for their ability to sequester carbon, habitat for a variety of animals, and natural beauty. Larry Rohan Professional Forester

We need to be planting more trees and encouraging developers To save existing large trees to combat climate change and the impoverishment of our community. Wealthy communities have mature trees. Impoverished ones have degraded environments. We want Lakewood to be a thriving but not an impoverished community. To do that we need our green oasis preserved. Please make it a part of our public policy. Please. Thank you

Please take steps to preserve these Oaks addressed on this petition. These Oaks are far more precious than our economics or city plans.

Please do everything possible to save the few remaining oak trees in Lakewood. These trees are slow growing and trying to replace them will take decades.

Native species must be protected if we hope to be able to retain our habitat and way of life. Please don't cut down the Garry Oaks to build warehouses.

These trees are special! Why would we allow them to be cut down or destroyed?!

Such habitats are irreplaceable, and should be nurtured and preserved.

If the Lakewood City Council would incentivize redevelopment of already developed vacant properties, Garry Oaks and other important mature trees wouldn't have to be cut down. Vacant lots are eyesores that collect garbage. The trees would have been previously removed, and most of these lots would already have some infrastructure such as adjacent streets, perhaps sidewalks. Incentives could include tax breaks and set fees of thousands of dollars to remove a healthy mature tree other than a Garry Oak. If trees are cut illegally, look to University Place's Tree Retention code where a property's development could be held up for 6 years. No more healthy Garry Oaks should be allowed to be removed.

Unique and add natural character to our city that future generations will appreciate and cherish

These trees need to be saved. It it part of the character and heritage of Lakewood and Pierce county.
