We, as a city, have a responsibility to preserve these trees for current residents and future generations. Not to mention the wildlife that rely on them.

Dear Lakewood City Council members,
Let's take the opportunity to preserve and protect the Garry oaks for our children and future generations who will benefit from the enhanced neighborhoods they create, the wildlife habitat they will preserve, and the reduction in global warming impact they will provide. Thank you.

The City of Lakewood had good intentions regarding tree preservation 20 years ago, but unfortunately that "road to hell" was paved with those "good intentions".

This City and its livability depends on a natural riparian habitat and shade cover for both wildlife and citizens. Our Garry Oaks should be preserved and protected from future development. Lakewood Code must be amended to include specific provisions relating to the preservation of our Garry Oak Savannah and serious fines must be levied on those who destroy them.

Save the Garry oaks before any more are lost! The current rate of destruction is horrific, and the impact this deforestation is having on already disadvantaged neighborhoods must be wholeheartedly condemned, and the trend reversed immediately. Demand a moratorium on non-emergency tree removals until a strong Tree Preservation Code is adopted.
