SAVE THE LAKEWOOD GARRY OAKS

Enough is enough we need our trees please the beauty of our state is at risk without these majestic trees.

We were also very distraught to see them cut down at the former Key Antiques building along Gravelly Lake Drive. Apparently they were cut down to make way for a... wine bar's terrace. Wouldn't it be better to sip fine wine under the oaks? A tragedy! 9 of 16 Garry oaks were cut down there, so we need to boycott that establishment for sure when it opens! :-(

This is my hometown and I love the oaks. Please do not cut them down. Trees are needed.

Save the oaks, as a native of lakewood and lakewood general hospital I have only seen these dissapear. I was distraught to see them cut down along gravelly at Clover park HS.

I was born and raised in Tacoma and used to go to my dentist in Lakewood so I know the area. Please save the remaining trees!

Absolutely, Mrs. Wagner is absolutely right -- we all need these oaks!

The oaks on the grounds of the former Oakwood school are particularly important because the ethnic minority apartment residents need the solace from these trees per the above petition.

They are not considered threatened or endangered in the State of Washington, and any protection is left up to the local jurisdiction. There are recommendations for managing oak woodlands published by the state, but still -- even if cities, like Lakewood, acknowledge them, it seems like all arborists and consultants hired by property owners and developers to assess Garry oaks and Garry oak groves around here usually conclude that there is no critical habitat (the only thing that would have to be protected).

Gary Oaks enjoy a protected status and play an important role in the environment. It is on the shoulders of the Lakewood City Council to protect them!

Please protect our native oaks!

Its a shame they are still being cut down even with protected status!

Please dont tear down those beautiful oak trees that so many people enjoy every day. They are not replaceable.

Do not allow destruction of our native oaks. This is one of Lakewood s important Strengths.

Keep these trees. They are protected for a reason!!
