Our remaining tree communities provide islands of calm regard to rest passing souls through the urban maze of indifferent commerce. Their loss imperils the balance of natural habitat central to the sustaining character of place that gives a city grace.

..... These oaks are are an important part of Lakewood history. We know too much concrete can lead to unwanted runoff... and honestly, aren't we smart enough to figure this out before we put these trees in harm's way in the future? I'm not a "tree hugger" but I love nature, and I do love these trees... what we have here, is stunning. Can't we just use our heads and think before we build? Please.

The garry oaks are vital to the well-being of our community. Their majestic tall presence shields us from pounding sun, from the rains in fall,winter and spring while they soak up the moisure and provide food and a habitat for wildlife.

These beautiful trees have been disappearing at an alarming rate. The trees on our property regulate the temperature in our home and attract much wildlife. Many of the oaks in our neighborhood, where we have lived for 45 years, are gone!

Groves of Garry Oaks must be protected, as must the living environment of the people in Springbrook. People need open space to observe and enjoy, not walls of concrete and endless truck traffic nearby. Lakewood must stop allowing warehouse construction in low-income living areas, such as Springbrook and Woodbrook. It is not necessary to monetize every last bit of open space found in Lakewood.

Thank you for signing! Absolutely! We interested in protecting all old growth, but with special considerations for Garry oaks because of their extremely slow growth and special habitat significance.
Please, do all we can to save the trees.
