Stop Unfair Spray Water Fees – Support Osoyoos Farmers

We, the concerned residents and supporters of our agricultural community, are calling on the Town of Osoyoos to reverse the recently implemented water fee changes that are putting unnecessary financial strain on local farmers.
Without any prior notice, discussion, or consultation with those directly impacted, the town of Osoyoos has introduced new fees that disproportionately affect farmers already struggling after consecutive seasons with no viable crop due to severe weather conditions.
As of now, farmers who need to access water before April 15th—for essential early-season activities like spraying—will be charged an additional $207 just to have the water turned on. This is on top of a earlier usage formula of $1.38 x acres x number of days, which was also implemented without consultation.
These abrupt changes not only create financial hardship but the lack of communication and proper notices make the situation more unfair.
We urge the Town of Osoyoos to:
- Suspend the new water fees immediately.
- Engage in open dialogue with local farmers before implementing future policy changes.
- Consider the unique needs and challenges faced by our agricultural community.
