As a former student who went to USD schools K-8 and the proud daughter of a USD teacher, I firmly stand with the teachers. It's insulting how the board is treating them and sadly the real people it will hurt in the end is the kids as the district will lose more and more of the excellent teachers that make USD a top district. Fair wages and benefits are not too much to ask for!

I and many teacher have invested our entire careers to this district, but now it is time for the district to invest in teachers by respecting us with a fair wage and benefits, long sacrificed.

As a teacher in this district for 20 years, it saddens me to see that all I equate to is dollar sign in the eyes of my administration. 20 years to the parents represents an experienced teacher.

I love being a USD teacher but it was a poor financial decision; I know many incredible young teachers who are leaving--not good for anyone! This Board is out of touch with the needs of our community.

We are amazing teachers that work so hard for our students and community. We only ask that our Board pays us equal to those districts around us and extends us the same benefits plan that they themselves enjoy.

Do the right thing for teachers! The Board has a moral responsibility to treat us fairly. We teach our students to do the right thing. The Board should too!

With all the elementary schools having achieved Gold Star status, one would think the board (lower case intentional) would choose to reward their employees instead of insult them. The board and administration receive health care benefits at no cost, while the teachers pay about $1000/month for non-Kaiser insurance. Please support our faculty while they suffer thru this board. BTW...two members are up for re-election this fall. Food for thought.

All of these teachers deserve to have better pay and not have to pay for their insurance. The board should not get their insurance paid. This district has great schools because of the teachers!!

I have done yard duty for 13 years at UMS. I have had two daughters go through the school district. The teachers are wonderful and I'm sure due to the influences of the terrific teachers that's why my daughter went into education in college.

The teachers are asking, among equal benefits, an average of a 12% wage increase for the next contract; the district first came back with 3% and then about 6-8%, depending upon years of experience. Now it's about 10%. For comparison, teachers in the Cambrian School District receive 12% more and Los Gatos School District received 25% more than USD teachers. The teachers in Cambrian and Los Gatos also receive more for teachers with Masters and PhDs. However, if wages are based on quality of results, then USD teachers should be paid even more. Using standard API scores, since USD students score higher than Cambrian students, and almost as high as Los Gatos students, USD teachers should be paid somewhere between 12% and 18.8%. Clearly, USD teachers are underpaid compared to student results. This is why USD teachers are being offered positions at other districts with more pay. We’re losing some good teachers because of low pay. Even if you no longer have students in the district, we all know that API scores are one of the factors keeping our property values high. Parents want to live here because of the good schools and teachers so we should do all we can to ensure our schools are near the top of the state evaluations. Tell the USD Board Members that you support the teachers in this negotiations: Sheila Billlings - [email protected]; Vickie Brown - [email protected]; Cindy Goodsell - [email protected]; Janice Hector - [email protected]; Harold Stuart - [email protected] If you would like to show support to USD Teachers, sign this petition and tell a friend, please.

Pay should be competitive with neighboring districts, post-negotiations within these districts. I have to agree with the teachers on Health Benefits. I realize there's more teachers than DO admins, so the total cost is much higher. However, the disparity should not exist between the two groups. Teachers & DO admins should both have to pay for Health Benefits. Most of the rest of society pays. I pay for my benefits, and I work for one of the premier tech-companies of the valley. It's just a matter of fact nowadays. Giving a raise and then having to pay *more* for benefits isn't really a raise. Please do the right thing and bring total compensation inline with neighboring districts.
