I have four children who have been through or are in the gifted program. One has switched to the MACS program. There is no doubt in my mind that school would have been a miserable experience for my children without these program and that they would not have been able to achieve their potential in a regular stream. The peer group aspect of gifted is incredibly important for kids who don't fit in to the mainstream and even if destreaming could somehow miraculously meet their academic needs, without an appropriate peer group many of these children would be unable to thrive.

I am signing this petition to strongly oppose the TDSB plan to cancel gifted programs, optional programs, AP or enriched programs, as well as optional attendance. These programs gives a chance to our kids and society to become better and excel, it's absolutely wrong to cancel them.

Please for not deprive my child from her education. I believe very strongly the proposed changes will negatively affect her and a large number of her classmates. Please reconsider. Thank you.

This is very short-sighted. Students whose needs are not being met and who have the means will leave the public system. Consider the unintended consequences.

Both my children have/are attending TDSB specialized programs and have had amazing high school experiences. I believe that offering children that have special interests should be encouraged and supported through our education system. These types of programs nurture students in ways that build their confidence and develop their skills and support their needs. There should be choice for students that want choice. As a teacher, differentiated learning is a priority when teaching all students. Having specialized programs is at the core of teaching children/adolescents in different ways and should continue to be offered as a separate program to really meet all students needs.

This is a way for the than to save money at the expense of student's learning needs. As a parent of a gulf who is part of the special education gifted program I implore
you not to carry this forward.
