We need to match students skills and needs to the program, not provide a generic education that meets only a minimum standard to all students.

Both my children are directly affected by this as one is in high school and has special needs and the other will enter grade 9 next year. Teachers and schools are being told class sizes for grade 9 will be capped at 30-to serve spec ed and all students with NO increase in teaching staff nor EAs and no other known resources allocated. This is not a formula to address the needs of students especially as they transition to high school. Children at the edges of achievement-both upper and lower- will not have their needs met in the destreamed model. You can demand that administrator and staff to build a palace with NO blueprints, no supplies and no additional resources such as more staff, more EAs, more learning coaches, more funding for differentiated resources to be able to offer differentiated instruction. You are asking - with this severe lack of consultation with the professionals who would be tasked to implement these changes - to build a utopia with NO consultation, planning, training tools or other resources. Perhaps well- intentioned but no sense of reality on the ground of the complex challenges on how to potentially actualise this with no time.

I feel students have the right to choose different programe, school board should be able to provide special programes for special needs, kids are different, you can put them all in one programe. Otherwise, that the point to have a school board for, we only need a administrtive office for all schools.

Congregated specialized programs are essential to address the diverse needs of students. Inclusion sounds wonderful but is only beneficial if the needs of all students can be met. Grouping MID, HSP, regular stream and Gifted students together in large classes with minimal additional support is a recipe for disaster that will not provide any of the students with the educational opportunities they deserve.
