Losing the gifted program would be a severe blow to too many kids and disengage too many students. Other specialty programs have equal value to their students and parents. It is short sighted and ludicrous to even consider to do this.

These changes would harm all students with the hope that it might help a few. Focus on providing programming that meets the diverse needs not forcing everyone into an academic stream that doesnt met their interests and skills. Youve already killed all the supports like guidance, EAs, music, art, guidance and library teachers as well as tech schools and programs...No wonder kids are drowning.

I've read the EETF Report commissioned by TDSB, and I am strongly opposing its findings, especially as they relate to "reforming" (or rather, dare I say, gradual phasing-out) of the Congregated Gifted Program. This is done in the name of equality and equal opportunities. In fact it would mean hurting gifted students while not helping the others. Research after research proves the importance of learning among peers for gifted students. Teachers need to apply different teaching techniques with these students and motivate them differently than non-gifted ones. Gifted does not necessarily mean smart, it's just different. Normalizing a program that offers a dedicated learning environment to gifted students will not create benefits to other students, but it will certainly hurt the gifted ones. TDSB and the province of Ontario should remember that a robust education program is the engine of any society, and other jurisdictions in Canada and abroad are making progress in that respect. Let's not undo programs that work while pretending that we're doing it in the name of noble principles. This should not be a zero-sum game. Improve the mainstream programs and access for everyone to them, but not at the expense of the special education ones. Keep and improve the Congregated Gifted Programs in place!

What a short sighted plan with a poor implementation plan. Tdsb - you can find better ways to provide equal opportunities to all students that don't reduce every thing to a standard that does not meet the needs of any stu

They are trying to address too many unrelated problems (real and perceived) with a simplified approach that will result in a bigger developmental gap on more students than we see today in the status quo. Are we really ready to sacrifice our future so that we can all feel good about being treated “equally”?
