Dear Toronto and surrounding area parents,

I’m sure you are well aware by now of the fast spreading Wuhan Novel Coronavirus.

Currently there are over 4500 confirmed cases worldwide and 106 confirmed deaths.

In Toronto there are already 2 confirmed cases and 19 currently being investigated...this virus is spreading quickly. The incubation period is approximately 14 days and unlike other Coronavirus’, in most cases, signs and symptoms are not evident until after the 14 day incubation period.

Most of our schools are heavily populated, so It is critical to keep this virus from entering our schools and affecting our children and staff, ultimately resulting in a pandemic.

The purpose of this petition is to appeal to the Toronto school board to encourage travellers returning from China to report their travels to their respective schools and to refrain from sending their children to school for at least the 14 day incubation period. At the same time all students and staff should be encouraged to don face masks as an additional means of protection.
