My brother was hit by a car at four years old - not a speeding car, so he survived, but lives with the disabilities his severe brain injury caused him, and does not have the life he would have had, is not the person he would have been. Such accidents, real-life nightmares, are preventable, by making responsible decisions about the environments we live in, of prioritising the lives and safety of the most vulnerable in our community over the freedom to plough the fastest route to work. Better to add 5 minutes to the commute than be involved in an accident. Reigate Road should be access only, at least at rush hour - it should not be abused as a 'cut through' as it is now.

I agree with all the comment regarding Reigate rd. It is used as a shortcut especially at school drop off and pick up time. They make the intersection at the corner of Reigate rd, Highcroft villas and Millers rd incredibly dangerous to cross, especially for our lollipop lady, Helen. I have seen drivers totally ignoring her presence in the middle of the road many times. The knock on effect of any intervention also need to be considered. We live on Inwood Crescent, which, I presume, because it is wider, seems to be used as a cut through for Compton rd. Would speed restriction measured need to be considered on these parallel roads too?

I watched someone do at least 35mph down Reigate Rd a few weeks ago. Even the kids commented on it. Something needs to be done.

I'm sure the same idiots speed along here now as did before 20mph was introduced, but they don't down Hollingury Road and never have. It's a shortcut to Lewes Road, it's wider than Reigate, there's an incline, it should be worse, but it isn't because it has speed bumps.

The speeding on our road has got out of hand and needs to be stopped before there is an accident. I work from home and witness speeding cars all through the day. The new 20mph limit has made no difference what so ever and driver don't respect that this is a residential area. More than 50 children live here and hundreds of school children pass by every day.

The high number of speeding cars using Reigate Road and adjacent roads as cut through to speed out of town is a danger to children, old people and other residents living in the area. There have already been several car accidents all involving cars using the road as a short cut, in the last couple of years while children were playing healthily outside, and pure luck no children and cyclists were injured. The amount of cars and speeding cars along this road towards the Stanford school reduces the number of children cycling to school and increase the number of parents who drive the children to school instead due to insufficient road safety along this busy walking to school road. Please implement traffic calming measure or cut the short cut to reduce the risk of further accidents.

the speeding in our road is not acceptable and the police should at least enforce the 30 mph speed limit even if they do not recognize the 20 mph limit

The speeding is now ridiculous and I just don't know how someone has not been injured or worse! Something needs to change and very soon. This affects all of us not just those with children and pets. Not sure about chicanes, does that not take away parking spaces ? The ones at Preston Circus are full of weeds and rubbish and look dreadful.

I am very concerned at the speed that cars go along the Reigate Road. This seems particularly bad at rush hour when the road sounds like a motorway. The 20mph speed limit does not seem to have made any difference. There are lots of children living on the road and walking along the pavements to school. I am worried that cars are travelling so fast that they would not be able to stop in time if a child stepped out. I would like to see steps put in place to stop the speeding.

The speeding is getting worse, Reigate Road was a quiet place when we first got here 27 years ago.
I agree with chicanes, no sleeping policemen, as people speed to it, then accelerate again after, increasing pollution. A few chicanes with flowers maybe.

The speeding is getting worse and something needs to be done about it. The road is used as a shortcut to bypass the Dyke Road crossroad traffic lights. There's an obvious lack of respect from the drivers for the residents and the children that use our road to walk to school.

We have lived in Reigate road for 20 years, the traffic has got faster and faster and we don't like it. Stop these selfish drivers from speeding down our road. Speed calming measures needed Now!

Along with many local families, I walk down Reigate Road in order to take my children to school. The heavy flow of traffic and the speed at which cars travel along this stretch makes it really quite dangerous for pedestrians, especially for a child to cross the road on his/her own. It is for this reason that many parents are still accompanying their children to school even though the children are keen and old enough to walk by themselves.

Reigate road is used by many kids on their way to and back from school. It also used by many drivers who take a short cut at speed to avoid Dyke Road. I have witnessed hundred of cars in the past 4 years speeding on this street . This needs to stop to avoid casualty .

Common sense. Rat runs need speed bumps. Coventry Street has them, another popular rat run from Old Shoreham Road down to London Road.
