I totally agree. They should not be split. It definitely messes up the comraderie.

I am a 2012 graduate of Smithtown East, but an alumni of Smithtown XC. The sense of community on the combined team was wonderful. Furthermore, cross country requires depth, and fielding a roster for both schools to compete separately may pose a problem. Additionally, I don't see why the school district would want to add the expenses of an extra team while hurting the experience of those involved, particularly as elementary schools are being closed (meaning the population of the district is decreasing and fielding separate rosters from smaller populations will get tougher and tougher).

No one on the team wants this team to be split besides literally one person. Don't let that one person ruin the awesome experience we all share.

I met some of my best friends from Smithtown East, who I would've never met if the XC team wasn't combined. Some of my fondest high school memories were from XC, and it's not fair to split up the schools and take away the potential great experiences away from these teammates.

East and West combined into one cross country team is what got us the title of undefeated champions for 7 years in a row. The team has always been like a family, and separating them is unfair and wrong. Both coaches Coach Brian Willman (East) and Coach Welsh (West) are the best coaches the team could ever ask for. I was on the team for 5 years and it was the best team that I have ever and will ever be apart of.

Dividing smithtown's cross country teams between east and west high schools is an unfair decision that does not benefit the athletes themselves or the district as a whole. This decision will negatively affect many aspects of the team and individuals involved.

I really feel it is in the best interest of the athletes to stay as one united team. My daughter participated in cross country and it gave her such a sense of family and built her self esteem. I feel the combining of the schools enlarged her circle and helped her open herself up to new friendships and experiences. By splitting the teams not only are you affecting them competitively you are hindering their social growth and narrowing their world needlessly.

I was once a member of this amazing team, and it's necessary that we keep these people together. The success of these teams future seasons could depend on this decision, and I hope no split needs to occur.
