Stop the sale of Confederate flags at Levi Coffin Days

The confederate flag is undeniably a source of controversy. Controversy has no place at a community event aimed at building goodwill and a better understanding. To uphold their international mission "to serve with a kind heart", the Fountain City Lions must ban the controversial confederate flag from ANY event they sponsor; Levi Coffin Days especially. If counsel is needed on the subject, club members could contact their current International President, Douglas X. Alexander... nice guy... also a black man.

Please do not sell these flags. They are symbols of hatred.

Racist symbols matter. Generations of Black Americans have been clear that to them, the confederate flag represents hatred, white supremacy and systemic racism. Products with this symbol have no place at a festival connected to the Quaker abolitionist Levi Coffin. Any such products should not be displayed or sold at Levin Coffin Days.

Please heed this petition.

As a Quaker -- I find the Confederate Flag anathema to the values of Levi Coffin.

The Confederate flag is a symbol of racism and bigotry. It should not be sold or displayed in any form at a festival bearing the name of one of the nation's foremost abolitionists.

The sale of Confederate flags at a Lions Club event is deeply offensive. The flag does not mean Southern pride. It is now a clear symbol of slavery, racism, & white supremacy. Even NASCAR has banned the flag. The mission of Lions Club includes to strengthen communities and encourage peace. Continuing to allow this flag clearly does NOT further its mission, demeans the Lions Club & looks bad for Fountain City.

Levi Coffin was a Quaker abolitionist, who helped Black folks escape slavery. The Confederate flag was a rallying emblem for those who promoted slavery. Why sell a flag that remains a symbol of racism & white supremacy?!

The Confederate battle flag was an emblem of those who seceded from the Union to maintain slavery in their States. As such it would have been a horror to Levi Coffin.

It is so sad that anyone wishes to display the flag of traitors.

As a Quaker, I find the values that created the Confederate flag offensive and would be horrified to see them associated with Eli Coffin, the great Quaker abolitionist.

The Confederate flag should have no place anywhere in the United States, and certainly not at a commemoration of leading voice of the abolition of slavery.

Please stop the usage and sale of Confederate memorabilia at Levi Coffin Days. Fountain City (Newport) was founded by abolitionists and were actively resisting the Confederacy.

I am horrified to learn that a place honoring a man central to the Underground Railroad, designed to assist those held in bondage to gain freedom, would be selling a flag that celebrates those who were holding those people in bondage. The selling or displaying such a symbol in this era is a message communicating the values of white supremacy. Although our country has a history of such thinking, this value and this symbol have no place in our country today. We were founded on the value of all men being created equally. We have, over time, grown into this original value as we have come to acknowledge and value the equality of all people who live here, with no distinctions based on race, gender, ethnic background, sexual orientation, etc. Please ensure that your historical site and events show respect for our current values and for the values of the person being honored in this space and at special events.

The Confederate flag has NO place in this society today. It is a symbol of hate, greed and racism--to label it anything else is a sham.

No racist Confederate flags should be displayed EVER
