I have spoken out against the route 53 expansion since. I first learned about it 15 years ago! It is a destructive plan from the standpoint of the environment and economy of Lake County BUT in particular the overreaching by the various government entities pushing for this forlorn and tired project. What is it that keeps a projects such as Route 53 Expansion alive? The only answer: special interests who stand to gain in many ways by its construction. From the road builders to some of the land owners. The ONLY benefit will be a special small group who stand to gain. The rest of us will be stuck with the increased pollution, added hidden costs and destruction of sacred areas of wild life sanctuaries for which Lake County is now well known. This project has been in hospice for too long. Let it die the peaceful death it deserves!

We do not want a toll road running through our peaceful neighborhood! The environmental impact of this project is huge and the economic impact is questionable.

I wish to go on record that I’m opposed to the extension of Route 53. After attending numerous meetings on the subject, it has never been adequately explained to me the benefits of the plan either personally or to the Village of Long Grove. It seems that only real estate developers, constructions companies, trucking firms, and residents of villages to the north and south of the corridor communities through which the highway will run will benefit. The bottom line remains…. a project that costs too much, has an adverse environmental impact, and depresses property values. I encourage you to do whatever is possible to kill this project and instead concentrate efforts to improve existing roadways (e.g. Route 22) and public transportation.
