Stop the Rezoning of Southbury Subdivision

Let the children continue their education at the school they're already comfortable at!

I hear our high school events from my back yard. I see the football field lights from my back yard. How can the kids go to a school farther away? I don't believe this is a smart decision for several reasons. Local community being the biggest.

my student will be a senior next year. why in the world would I want her to attend a different high school than the one she's attended for 3 years? we would seriously consider moving if the boundaries changed .

It would be crazy to split up our community. Many people bought their homes here to be close to the neighborhood schools. I do not have any children still in school but in the best interest of this communities children don't let them divide this neighborhood. Make sure to be well represented at these meetings.

The proximity to the schools in question and the ability to have kids within walking distance was a major factor in choosing to buy in Southbury. My wife and I are opposed to the proposed rezoning and having our children attend schools other than Traughber and OHS.

Fully concur with the Southbury Community on the proposed school boundary redistricting, resulting in changes from OHS & Traughber JH

We can see OHS from our front steps, my kids were and will be walkers to Traughber, and yet somehow busing them to Plank and OEHS are on the table. How is this even possible? A stagnant downtown, skyrocketing taxes, and poor decisions like this by our school board are making it harder and harder to want to stay in Oswego.

I would love to comprehend how this is even up for discussion. What reason is there behind jeopardizing logistical (bus and car rides for parents that moved here greatly because kids would be able to walk or bike to school), fiscal (additional cost of transportation for Southbury kids that otherwise would walk or bike to school), sentimental (yes, there is a true sense of community that develops from living so close to a school, just ask residents of Prescott Mills how they feel about OEHS as a part of their community), geographical (no need to explain this one I am sure), financial (there certainly is a financial aspect to be taken into consideration here, as Southbury home values are strongly supported for being a neighborhood with such ease of access to all three great schools: Southbury Elementary, Trauber MS, and Oswego HS)? Maybe there truly is a reason all of us are "missing", but frankly, no one has enlightened us on what reason that could possibly be... If financially, fiscally, geographically, culturally, sentimentally and logistically this makes ZERO sense, that leaves only one possible alternative: behind-curtains POLITICAL influences, that must be brought to light and openly discussed! Keep the school zoning as is.

When making the decision of where to move and start our family, I told my husband I wanted to go "home"!!! I was raised in Oswego. I am a graduate of Traughber Junior High and Oswego High School (2000). There are so many new subdivisions in Oswego to choose from but what particularly appealed to me about Southbury was the close proximity and walk-ability of Southbury elementary and my alma maters. Please keep Southbury's school boundaries as Southbury elementary, Traughber and OHS! This is the heart of Panther country! Go Panthers!

The proposed changes to the boundaries do not make logistical sense. We can literally see all three current schools from our home. Southbury Elementary, Traughbe Jr High, and Oswego High School are all within walking distance for our children. Why someone feels the need to put my children on a bus as an alternative option is beyond my understanding.

Why would we ever bus our kids when they can walk to JH & HS. I moved her for my children to go to the school we can see from my home

The potential decision to change the boundaries and have Southbury students feed into Plank and OEHS is a mistake that will have a negative impact on the students and Southbury neighborhood. Southbury is situated in the middle of the three schools that our students attend. Traughber students regularly walk to Southbury Elementary after school to pick up younger siblings. The walkable proximity also allows our children to participate in a number of after school activities and extra curriculars that would not be possible at Plank or OEHS due to transportation issues. Fiscal considerations (bussing all students when they otherwise could walk), student involvement (ability to participate in extra curriculars), sense of community (we are situated in the center of Southbury Elementary, Traughber, & OHS), and tradition (we identify as Panthers) should all be considered when making this decision.

Do not re-zone Southbury. Maintain the current boundaries for the Subdivision as follows (Southbury Elementary > Traughber Junior High > Oswego High School)

It is not a good idea to break up a subdivision. Children need continuity and people who purchased homes in that subdivision purchased for the fact that the schools were in walking distance. As a realtor I can tell you that this is very harmful to their investment But especially to their children.

Keep our kids in the same feeder system to OHS. We are a walkable community that should remain walkable to all our schools- Southbury, Traughber and OHS. Beyond the effect on the children & transportation expenses to the district, this decision directly effects our home values. People choose these homes because they are walking distance to the schools and to have the children bussed across town would eliminate one of the positive features of our community.
