I am surprised to find out about this decision. The Emerson cavitation tunnel is an integral part of the school of marine science & tech.

It certainly is not feasible for the tunnel to be re-located just to improve a campus's external appearance. At the expense of many student's hard work and time spent at the lab doing continuous research. It is not fair for these students to have their research delayed or even voided because of a re-location which could cause more complications.

The relocation of the facilities is not likely to improve the capability of the tunnel . Furthermore there is a significant effort needs to put by the scientists and engineers to recommision the cavitation tunnel in its new location. Even then there is no garuntee the tunnel will function as before. The whole process will make a world-class research research facilities unavailable for a considerable number of years and may be forever.

I'm very disappointed to see that the University of Newcastle which I studied at and support with donations is prepared to compromise teaching and research in order to improve the presentation of its buildings. Visits to and demonstrations at the cavitation tunnel were key parts of my undergraduate experience and the fact that postgraduate staff were available to answer questions on site enhanced the learning experience. On the Universities own website the first line of its Visions and Values statement is "At Newcastle University, we have always focused on academic excellence and the impact of our academic work." I am interested to see how they can justify splintering resources with their stated aim of academics excellence.

Please stop the relocation. To be able to work efficiently, it's so important to have all facilities in one location.

Having closely worked with staff and students there and witnessed the unique relationship it has with the research and educational activities of the students of New castle University, I am extremely disappointed with this decision. I believe it will provide no real benefit to either University or research facilities but eventual decline in the research activity. The tunnel’s unique location at the heart of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering education of Newcastle university has established its unique appeal to many students to further their research interests and this has inevitably led to its strong links with the industry. Furthermore, this is a unique research facility with a significant importance in the history of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering research since its inception.
Therefore, I would like to appeal to Newcastle University to stop this re-location plan and instead support plans/proposals to enhance the current facilities. This can achieve a unique combination of a continuing world-class research facility at the heart of university with the aesthetic appeal!!! the university is aiming for its facilities.

It is of the interests of everybody to keep the Emerson Cavitation Tunnel at its current location. It is associated to the campus and its presence there is known worldwide. Let's have a bit of common sense!

Surely the relocation would be a waste of funds. Not to mention the increased costs after the relocation to students and staff. Keep the tunnel in its home, it has worked successfully all this time so far went change?
