As a concerned resident I am opposed to these proposals. The introduction of a bike lane will cause major disruption to residents and local businesses. Stamfordham Rd now has 2 day nurseries with parents dropping off children, a doctors surgery, dental practice and chiropractor which all need quick and easy access not to mention the road safety concerns. Various stakeholders all use Stamfordham Rd including Stagecoach buses, who operate buses to the city centre and a scholars service to local schools, also Bells Coaches who operate a paid private school bus service with pick ups along Stamfordham Rd to the schools in Ponteland. The proposals will also require the removal of beautiful mature trees which line Stamfordham Rd and adding to the village appeal. This is environmental vandalism. The bike lane proposal states it will start at McDonald's roundabout and end at Cobblers Corner. It truly is a "Road to Nowhere" There is no need for a bike land and it will not be used infact the disruption and completed bike lane will cause a 'rat run' of vehicles avoiding the area and using other residential streets to travel to and from Callerton.
