Bantry General Hospital is a remote rural hospital serving three peninsulas and a population of approximately 82,000 people, and this number increases to over 100,000 during the summer months. On July 8th 2013 the HSE plans to replace the 24-hour emergency department with a 12-hour local injury unit, which will only open from 8am to 8pm. This would mean that during the 12-hour period between 8pm and 8am each night, all emergency patients will be transferred to Cork University Hospital. We the undersigned believe this is NOT ACCEPTABLE. We are calling for an immediate STOP to these cuts.
