We are opposed to these plans, as this was NOT what was agreed to when residents approved the B-1 plans. Do the right thing by these residents and do NOT start a precedent in Oconee County where B-2 zones can be next to R-1.

After all of these years, why now, is this property being proposed to change for B2? Traffic is bad and will only get worse with this proposal. What has happened to slow, gradual, smart growth?

I am writing today to express my opposition to rezoning the property located on Highway 78 and Highway 53 from B-1 classification to B-2 classification. The Oconee County Board of Commission is voting on this issue on August 2, 2022, and I strongly urge each of them to vote no. Below, you will find a number of reasons why it is so important to me that the Board of Commission vote no.
First, I write here as a young adult, long-time resident of Oconee County. A few weeks ago, I turned 25 years old, and this September will be the 21st anniversary of my family moving to Oconee County. For all of the life that I have lived and remember in detail, Oconee County has been my home. I have seen it grow in ways that I never thought would be possible. As one example, I was a member of the North Oconee Titan Regiment in 2012 when Racetrac opened on Highway 78. The band and flagline were invited to perform as part of their grand opening, and we were excited to be there and to be getting a gas station so close to home and school. I have seen this county grow and develop in many innovative and necessary ways. However, the development that would occur near my home should the Board of Commission approve the B-2 classification would be neither innovative nor necessary.
Second, I write also as a lifetime resident of the Oconee Crossing neighborhood. When we moved into my home when I was four years old, we were the only home on my budding cul-de-sac. I can remember the three houses near ours being built, watching with great anticipation as a young child as the houses went from wooden structures to full homes. I can remember how excited I was to greet the new neighbors with my parents and siblings and my mom’s famous pound cake in tow. In addition, I can remember playing outside on a swing set, a trampoline, and my favorite Razor scooter. I remember playing with the next door neighbors until it was dark outside. We hardly go anywhere without going through the 78/53 intersection. It’s difficult to imagine how much more dangerous that would be with this development in place. Please preserve our country environment!

Live further up the road on Clotfelter. This development will add to the traffic on Hwy 53, which is so busy now that it’s almost impossible to pull out from our road.

This is unnecessary and unfair to the community of Oconee Crossing! Not caring for the surrounding families, communities, and family neighborhoods should be unlawful when it affects the value and community of local citizens investments and family livelihood.
