I along with many other students understand that our phones are irrelevant in our lessons that they shouldn't be used or seen as a distraction, however our lunchtime and breaktimes is our spare time the time we have to sit back and relax in what ever way we choose. As you have admitted through the use of laptops and iPads it is an essential part of the new times in this day and age where technology is taking over. Thank you for you time and I hope you can see that we aren't asking much.

It's impractical as we use our phones to communicate with our parents/ guardians. Without phones it's extremely difficult to ask your parent to top your finger up, or for then to let their children know when they are outside or a change of plans.

I think the 'no phones' policy in school is a unsafe rule because in case of an emergency. You are not allowed you phone unless you are in a 'designated area' that is 'supervised' which I also think is a waste of staff because that person who is in the 'designated area' could be somewhere else to supervise which is a lot more useful for the safety of the students at school. It will also open up the school more and will give the students more of a choice in which area they want to spent their lunch. If students are given more variety in choice of area then it will make the students happier and I have a first hand experience of this. Also if for some reason there is no member of staff in that 'designated area' then you will not be able to use your phone if you need to and then you will most likely get told off by a teacher walking past. Also if you pull your phone out to check the time in case it is time for the next lesson then there is a risk of being 'caught' for having your phone out and it will therefore be taken away til the end of the day and let's say something happens between when you get your phone taken away and then end of the day and you carers/parents try to contact you there will be no answer. Now the school may say that the carer/parent should get in touch with the school first but I know that my parents would call my mobile phone first and they would only contact the school if I had no phone on me but if it's taken away they are not going to know I don't have a phone.
