I disagree with many points of this plan but my main concern is the lack of take out. As much as dining services want to deny it, there simply isn't enough time for every student to sit down and eat. Carry out allows me the option to acquire fresh food at a quick pace. You can tell me about all the other convenience stores but the items they sell are processed and packaged. I want substantial, wholesome food without having to cram it down my throat just to make it to my next class. UMD needs to stop distancing the individual from the institution and go back to actually caring about things other than money--like student wellbeing.

Half of my meals are carry out because I am an engineering major, and I frequently do not have time to get lunch. The diners are very far from the engineering buildings and I have too much work to sit down for all of my meals.

Carry out is essential, I have a very busy schedule and rarely have time to just eat in the diner where it is impossible to get work done

Eating in the dining hall is a major inconvenience. I like carry out so I can take food back to my dorm and study or hang out with friends while I eat. The diner is not a social or academic space.

Take out investments such as Ozzi Boxes will be voided. Only a few people will benefit and many will suffer.

I dislike the elimination of take away options, and the price increase for the low quality food we are given.

At the moment, a basic meal plan includes TerpBucks; I don't see why next year, you will have to pay to have the new dollars on a "basic" plan.
Also, no carryout will make it very difficult for students to make it to the diner regularly. If you have little time between classes, you just won't be able to eat. Carryout is also useful so that friends can pick up food for someone else who is perhaps sick or studying. That would no longer be possible with no carryout.

My girlfriend comes over all the time from hood college and if she can't eat at the diner then she can't eat here.

1) The dining halls are not in academic areas of campus. It is already hard enough to walk from academic areas and get takeout between classes-if we have to sit an eat at the diner as well, it will be nearly impossible to eat between classes.
2) If reducing waste is the issue, take away the throwaway takeout containers and have Ozzi boxes as the only option.
3) Why do I have to pay the same amount of money as someone who is eating more or less food than me?
4) Just because other schools are doing it, doesn't mean that we should. UMD is supposed to be a school of leaders-why are we passively following others?
5) College is the time for students to learn how to do things like budget. If students are running out of dining points, they either need to learn how to budget better, buy more points, or negotiate with friends to use their dining points.
6) It's been proven that when more food is in front of you, you will eat more. It's already difficult to eat even remotely healthy when eating in the diner and turning it into a buffet will exacerbate the problem. Students are either going to gorge themselves (like they do in 251) or not eat enough because the dining halls are so inconvenient.

By reducing the opportunity to take out, you are really putting a burden on the students. We are busy and don't have time to stay at the diner to eat, but rather have to rush to our next class/meeting. But if we are hungry, take out or grabbing something from the 24hour shop/snack-and-shop/etc. is the best thing for us. I agree that it is important to reduce waste and that the takeout boxes are generating a lot of waste, but I think that if students want to take out, they should have to use the ozzi boxes.
Also, I understand that many schools have the all-you-care-to-eat style, but I chose to come to UMD because the dining system uses points instead. With an all-you-care-to-eat dining system, it is harder to be conscious of what I eat and it is likely that many students will fall into an unhealthy lifestyle.
Additionally, my family loves to come to UMD and visit me, and I like to use my dining points to get food or ice cream from the MD dairy for them. It is fair because I budget my dining points and I choose to use them to serve others. However, if we are limited on the number of guests we can bring into the diner each semester, my family will not enjoy visiting me here at UMD because they will be starving all day.
Overall, I do not think the new dining system will make most students happy. I have not talked to one student who thinks the new dining system is going to work out well, ESPECIALLY because of the limited take-out options. PLEASE let us just use ozzi boxes!

The new dining plan sucks. People who can't budget properly will not be able to survive the real word. They need to learn while still in college.

Please do not implement this plan! It is not fair for a small girl to have to pay the same price for food that a 200 pound boy would, when I am eating much less.

Not sure why it is good for us at all.
First of all, some people have to carry out food sometimes, like when they are rush to go to class or when they can't get back to diner during the day. Also I do not like the fact that I can't use my points in adele's. The food in diner will be same so there are no merit of changing it into buffet style. Also why won't you tell us the cost of basic plan?? This only blocks us from choosing cheaper dining plan that existed previously.
