LMP2 which is ran by the ACO/FIA which races in FIA World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series, Tudor United Sportscar Championship and Asian Le Mans Series shall be undertaking new rules in 2017.

So far the new rules shall be a spec engine for all cars and the number of manufactures limited to 4.

First problem is the single spec engine which displeases every LMP2 fan is we won't have various different engine sounds. We've Judd who use a V8 4ltr engine which gives us sportscar fans a fantastic noise to listen to as they scream through the Le Mans forest. With these new rules we won't be hearing this awesome engine no more.. HPD develop a engine for LMP2 as well as chassis which means they will be hugely affected in these new rules as we won't see either the HPD engine nor car racing no more. Nissan could be affected too even though they are by far the most popular engine for the reliability.

Cars we have now or in the near future: Gibson ( Zytek ), Oreca, HPD, Dome, Ligier, SMP, Morgan, Pilbeam, Tiga, Lola, Wolf, Alpine. If you bring in this new rule of only 4 manufactures this wipes out 8+ manufactures. Can you see a good side to this new rule? We certainly can't. Sportscar fans love seeing various different manufactures both in engine and chassis competing against each other as its what sportcar racing is all about!

You take away the main reasons why we love sportscar racing then what are we here for? To watch spec racing? That isn't why we love sportscar racing as we'd watch Indy car for that kind of racing.

We are here to hear the different sounds and to see various cars compete for wins.

Whats wrong with the current rules? The loop holes in the rules is the problem which FIA/ACO is trying to fix. The main loop hole is the cost capping which you can work your way around by making your own car. But their is many ways to fix that rule! Bringing the manufactures down isn't the right choice.
