Stop the Lynnhurst Plan! No New Traffic at 51st & James Ave.

Please heed the safety concerns listed above. And listen to neighbors whose homes will have worsened noise and air pollution. Citizens concerns are being ignored while major plans to change beloved routes are imposed on them, please show some responsibility for listening to those affected by these unnecessary plans! My children will be walking to Burroughs from our house next year, so I am clearly concerned. Additionally, as a driver who frequently crosses over James Ave. on 51st, I frequently have a hard time seeing anything cresting the bridge, and constantly feel like it's a gamble to *drive* across James with such limited visibility. Thanks for considering this!

Bad plan!

I strongly appose this highly inefficient, sadly developed, non-thought out plan. This proposed design is flawed on so many levels. Let your neighbors voices be heard.

I strongly support this petition for ALL the reasons given. Furthermore, I would add that even today the 51st and James intersection is dangerous because of the elevated bridge and cars driving Southbound too fast and not seen by drivers on 51st . There should be a tall stop sign for Southbound traffic NOW and even with it, 1900 new cars at the intersection would be a serious problem, especially as buses and cars bring school children to and from Burroughs School. On the other hand, I am very much in favor of the proposed BMP water storage fields that should improve water quality downstream and reduce flooding problems in the neighborhood. I also feel very positive about the proposed raised bridge to allow trails and daylight stream to pass underneath. I have lived within 2-4 blocks of the Parkway 90% of my life and have thoroughly enjoyed biking, walking, roller blading and driving it more times than I can count. Throughout my lifetime, I have shown off our great City to out-of-town friends and business people primarily using the Parkway. Please don't take away our ability to drive the Parkway as I've done most of my life.

We live, eat, breath this parkway. We are the pkwy. Do not come in hurt the balance we have then leave. Listen to the pkwy, leave our balance and livelihood alone.

I am against all proposed changes to the Parkway. Please stop changing streets and parking in ways that are only creating challenges for local businesses and pedestrians.

I oppose to this plan. I have small kids at Burroughs and this plan will make it tough to get them there, unsafe corners where re-routed, and could cause a barrier to the lynnhurst neighborhood between 5oth and now cut-off 52nd.

Please stop all proposed parkway traffic adjustments. The negative impact FAR outweighs any positive. I have not heard one single positive response to proposed...

Rerouting traffic onto 51st street/James and back to the Parkway is a terrible idea.

This plan goes against safety and the best use of the area.

This whole plan is beyond ridiculous!!! Why keep trying to change things that do NOT need to be changed. And I can not for a second understand why you would not consider the SERIOUS safety concern. Have your little traffic counter sit on the corner of 50th and James in the winter when roads are bad and count the number of kids/families that are walking there during a regular school day and Sunday worship. If this insane plan goes through the next study you'll be doing is how to make that corner safer after someone gets hurt - or worse. I strongly oppose this plan.

I am strongly opposed to all the proposed closures of sections of the Minnehaha creek parkway. Such closures disrupt the continuous flow that is part of it's beauty, design and intent. There are more economical ways of managing traffic to ensure pedestrian and bike safety along the parkway so that bikes, pedestrians and cars alike can safely share and utilize the parkway. Instead of building structures and diverting traffic, which is very expensive and disruptive to the immediate community, why not take better care of what we have. Cross walk lines are not refreshed (painted) regularly and flashing pedestrian/bike safety lights aren't being more effectively used. I also oppose creating the proposed dead-end 51st and Minnehaha pkwy and diverting traffic to James where it is already heavily congested with school buses, grade school children and other traffic related to the Minneapolis Public Grade School and local church. I'm not sure if that area can tolerate an 1900 per day increased level of traffic and it will certainly increase the risk for accidents near the school. I'm signing this petition in hopes that it will help keep our parkway and the people utilizing it safe.

Please hear the community who drive, walk, ride and live here when we say, BAD IDEA, BAD PLAN.

Please, stop trying to "fix" what isn't broken. Do your jobs. PROTECT and MAINTAIN our parks! Do not ruin the lovely, meandering, CONTINUOUS Minnehaha Parkway!

This completely and totally pushes my commute to work, Tangletown Gardens, onto already congested and road raged 50th, 54th, Nicollet and Xerxes Ave. As a landscape designer, the tools of my trade do not fit into form of a bike. The ability to take a quieter ride home along the creek not only keeps my car of the congested and frustrating road arteries, but it quiets and re-energized me before I walk into my home and put my mom and wife hat on. Arlandson’s traffic study??? I question it. I don’t recall driving over the typical lines over the road keeping count of cars. I did not see them. This plan not only increases danger at the Lynnhurst intersection, but it completely ignores the danger crossing Nicollet as mapped. Multiple times working at Tangletown cars blow the red lights on Nicollet and speed. I suggest the system is already solid. Traffic cops and turn signals benefiting cars first and pedestrians second would actually increase safety. Especially at Lynnhurst and 50th. There is no left turn signals cars. The green light is given first to pedestrians and bikes. One car!!!!! During rush hour inches into the intersection. The light turns yellow, the runners and bikes pick up the pace and try to beat the light one car gets through. Also on thus side of the parkway headed to Lake Harriet, there are actual bikes biking the wrong way against traffic while there is a designated bike away on the parkway. It is shocking to come over a hill and confront a biker on the road headed the wrong way Ultimately, the Park Board can not maintain what they have. The maintenance was below acceptable standards. Poor baseball fields....they were not mowed until mid to late season. And, the parkways themselves are weed covered and overgrown. This summer at times on lake level you could not see the lake because invasive weeds were/are overtaking the natives. Maintenance just just happen. You need to pull weeds if the city is going green.
