Stop the Lynnhurst Plan! No New Traffic at 51st & James Ave.

There are so many reasons why the Park Board should nix this insane plan of altering the Parkway at the juncture near the Lynnhurst Community Center and the current bridge crossing of the creek on the Parkway. The petition has ably stated most of the reasons. The proposal introduces, in my opinion, the strong likelihood of unintended consequences such was physical danger to pedestrians including adults of all ages as well as school children, worsened traffic congestion, wasted public dollars spent on destroying a very nice bridge, a functional community center, elimination of the public pleasure of the uninterrupted "Grand Rounds," and disruption of current access patterns for travel in and out of the neighborhood used by residents and visitors alike. The proposals for altering traffic on the Parkway at Nicollet Ave. is of a similar ill-advised nature. I suggest the "planners" all get in their cars and make left hand turns on to northbound Nicollet from the eastbound narrow roadway off the Parkway or just cross Nicollet to continue eastbound while trying to peer around the blocky Tangletown monoliths on the bridge. Traffic will be backed up tremendously. I have lived in my home at 52nd and Humboldt for over 45 years and have yet to find any neighbors who agree with this "solution to a problem that doesn't exist." Remember that the Park Board did not achieve its full budget request for next year. Funds should be spent on road and pathway and community center maintenance. Also we vote!

This proposed plan, with regards to the Lynnhurst road closing and the Nicollet area closing, is very bizarre. There is NO reason to fix non-existent problems. Perhaps the park board prefers to cause new problems?

The whole proposed plan for Minnehaha Parkway needs to be tossed, not just the lynhurst, 51st and James section. All the intersections in the plan suffer from the proposals not gain from them.

Please listen to the people that live here and the reasons why we feel that this is a poor idea to close sections of the parkway. We strongly urge you to abandon the plan to close the parkway at any junction. I use the parkway several times per week to travel east to the Mississippi River area and west from our home in Lynnhurst to Lake Harriet. I have walked the parkway sidewalks each day for over 35 years and have never felt any danger from the traffic on the parkway and I go through the intersection at the community center each day again without safety concerns.

Please don’t dismiss the rights of the elderly and disabled to enjoy our city. One of my uncle’s favorite outings was when I took him for a car ride along Minnehaha Parkway. He could see the beauty of our city even though he was no longer able to walk or bike the route. He was an amazing athlete in his younger days, but circumstances change. Let’s not design the city for only able bodied people.

I plead with the MPB to begin to function like elected officials who are responding to their constituents. I now fear every time I see a sign that says, in effect, "There is a new plan for this park." I have no confidence that the new plans will benefit the environment or the goal of this jewel of a park system.

Burroughs traffic is already a disaster- new traffic would only make that intersection more dangerous for little kids and young families

A very ill advised and DANGEROUS plan!! I drive James from 48th to 54th multiple times a day. Shocking how many people step out from behind cars or buses to cross the street. Pushing traffic off of the beautiful Parkway onto the already too congested James will undoubtedly leave blood on your hands. A very very dangerous plan... probably suggested by individuals that don’t drive on James everyday.

Wasting taxpayer money to "prove" an issue that does not exist is not wise use of taxpayer money. This was a bad plan in July and it's still a bad plan.

The CAC is out of touch the majority of constituents who do not want this. It is a bad plan. Do not break up the Grand Rounds this anti-car culture has to be moderated so that everyone can live together!! Closing part of the parkway is a ridiculous and expensive idea.

Please consider rethinking your plan for the 51st and James/Minnehaha Pkwy proposal. Seems as if the "solution" will create more problems that keeping it as is.

I believe we must protect what is good about Minneapolis and fix things where there are actual problems. To do this is pointless aside from race and class grievance baiting in order to fulfill a deeper hidden city wide agenda regarding upzoning, privatization and donor kickbacking.
