Stop the Lynnhurst Plan! No New Traffic at 51st & James Ave.

As a resident living ON the Parkway, I am a hard "NO" on this ill-conceived plan. The Parkway is a gem. Leave it alone.

The city council is taking too many liberties without getting feedback from those most affected. Tired of these plans being pushed forward, silently.

The parkway is unique to Minneapolis, why would you want to destroy this iconic route?

Please do not change traffic on the Parkway. I am a biker, walker, and car driver and have no problems with existing flow of traffic.

It seems insane to redirect all that traffic to a narrow street that borders an elementary school. It's not just an accident waiting to happen, it's many accidents waiting to happen. Please use your common sense!

I have reviewed the traffic study conducted as part of this project. There are several aspects of the study which led to under-estimation of the traffic impact on this neighborhood. The tone of the report's narrative is far from objective. How can this study not measure the current traffic volume on James between 51st and 54th? The conclusions are based on dubious methods.

We support this petition to stop the Lynnhurst Plan. The new plan is clearly both a safety hazard and an inconvenience.

I live literally on 51st and James. We already get a ridiculous amount of cars going way too fast over the bridge. You also cannot see the oncoming traffic on the other side of the bridge due to its curvature. It would be a definitively not dope move on the cities plan.

This will increase traffic flow through our neighborhood (Luverne Ave) significantly, to the point that I would anticipate it would affect property values. There is no benefit to this plan. The existing design is great — maintain what we have! It doesn’t need to be changed.

Leave parkway traffic and parking as is!

The safety of children, bikers and those walking is my main concern. The intersection at 51st and James will be a hazard since they are putting in a new bike/walking path and this will not be visible to the drivers coming south on James from 50th. Also, during school, start and school end and when the ball fields are in use, children dart out from between parked cars and drivers are opening their car doors into the narrow two lane road. Already very congested and stressful to drive that stretch without adding more traffic. Just changing traffic patterns due to changes in the parking lots will also add more traffic to James I suspect also.

For 19 years, I have walked, biked, and driven through the Lynnhurst Park area. There is absolutely NO reason to close Minnehaha Pkwy from 50th to 51st street by the Lynnhurst Community Center. I have offered simpler solutions which have NOT been listened to. The best being widening the road on the SE corner of 50th street (by the temple) so cars going straight or turning right can make a turn without waiting in the queue with the left hand turners. Closing the road is an extremely poor idea. The Lynnhurst neighborhood was ranked the 46th best city in the country. With this change, we will not only lose that ranking, but have one of the most accident prone areas in the country. Park Board Commissioners: it is time to listen to your constituents!!!

I strongly oppose the proposed plan to close the parkway to vehicular traffic. It is dangerous, expensive, and unnecessary.

This plan will actually worsen traffic and safety problems. Please drop it.

Keep the Parkway the way it is and make it accessible to all, even those of us who can bike!

The proposed traffic changes are dangerous for kids, which seems antithetical to the mission of the Park Board!
