This petition is to stop the lease and hydraulic dredging of the tidal flats for clams in Sonora, Guysborough County Nova Scotia. This is the estuary for the St. Mary’s river and many other streams. It’s a nursery and home to many species of fish including Atlantic Salmon, trout, gaspereaux, smelt, eels, etc. This estuary supports a lot of aquatic life and should not be dredged. Hydraulic dredging causes silt plumes. Silt plumes can clog fish gills, smother out marine plants, disrupt a otherwise pristine environment. Other places are already banning hydraulic dredging because of the destruction it causes. This is a sensitive area and according to last years Nova Scotia anglers handbook will become a special management area this year. Let’s not let this vital ecosystem be leased and dredged. Stop this before it starts. Please take a minute to sign your signature to stop the lease and hydraulic clam dredging of our tidal flats here in Sonora, Nova Scotia. Thank You!

My Grandmother is from that area in Sonora, I have many memories of digging clams with her for supper. I have taken my kids there as well, and do not want to see it change.

This is an important issue. The estuary of the St. Mary’s River is an important part of the ecosystem and must be protected.

Do not allow greed to destroy what nature takes care of. This is a small community who who are proud to share the beauty with many visitors. Giving something to a big company that should always be for the public is just not right. This is my home too, I currently live out of area, but take pride in visiting "GODS COUNTRY" whenever I get the chance. I have many family members who still live in the area. The proff is in the actual foot in the mud and hoe along with it! DONT LET LONGSHORE ruin a beautiful place due to pure GREED! I worked the clam plant many years ago, these flats were how people lived. How dare longshore try to lie to fill their pockets!

I dont think anyone should have the right to keep the people from using the flats to dig clams to feed there family's . It seems like greed is taking over everything and our government is going along with them makes me sick.
