Greene County does not need to spend this money when they can share a jail with Columbia county. Our taxes are high enough!!

Current jail plan is well over-sized, over-priced, and - given the change in law - unnecessary. Vote to pause this plan and re-visit the issue. A shared-jail in the midst of 650 vacant beds surrounding Greene County presents a “save tax gold” opportunity for us.... and an opportunity to advance REAL needs in our community.

Incarceration rates are dropping, the state is instituting reforms which continue to lower the number of individuals who will be held in the future, even the County Administrator has reduced the number of beds for the new facility several times! It's time to stop the project NOW. We should be crafting a more compassionate future, not one where some individuals continue to be commodities off of whom others make money. If the state is willing to loan the county $70 million lets use it to address the needs of vulnerable residents.

Shared services is the way to go. Use Greene Co. money to make improvements that make people want to live here, not leave here.

I was a lifelong Catskill resident until a few months ago. The reason I left was for a job opportunity unavailable to me in my hometown or county. We need jobs, not more prisons.

Reform in the justice system will help people of less means continue their employment or education with the issuance of an appearance ticket and in turn diminishes the need for jail cells. Pause and rethink the whole idea of a new independent Greene County jail. A joint regional shared facility is the way to go. In addition technology allows surveillance of defendants without incarceration and this option should be explored as an added tool that does not require a costly jail environment.

It's hard to comprehend how anyone can dismiss factual info so easily as was the case at the County Legislative meeting that was open to the public several months back. For an hour there was so much fact and thoughtful reasons disseminated by experts & local individuals as to why we should share a jail. It appeared to me that during that 1-hour session most of the legislators inserted ear plugs. Their current plan does not serve the residents of Greene Count in any way.

This is an unnecessary and ill advised use of county resources. We do not need such a huge and outrageously expensive holding pen. There are other solutions to this problem of the outdated Catskill jail! Please stop this jail before it is too late!
