On April 27th, Lincoln and Christy Lloyd were at a dog show in Iowa. When Lincoln came home to check their litter of seven 2 wk old puppies, their home was on fire. It has been determined that the heat lamp over the puppies and their mother was the cause of the fire. The mom and the puppies died, including several other dogs. First of all, WHO LEAVES TWO WEEK OLD PUPPIES home alone with a HEAT LAMP????? The Lloyds also reported to several breeders that the dog/bitch that they got from them, died in their arms and they buried them. Amazingly, two of those animals ROSE FROM THE DEAD! They were found in rescue!

The Animal Rescue League was called in to rescue the remainder of their 27 dogs by the fire department! All of which, were either in crates and/or loose in the house or basement, that is not known.

Acquaintancesof the Lloyds were called by Christy for help. Two English Setters were taken by one person from the show and another three were taken by another English Setter person.

Unfortunately, the dogs were very very thin, full of parasites (hook, round and whip worms) and had lice. Many were matted to the skin full of feces with skin rashes, toenails curling under and shy/timid dogs that had obviously not in a loving/caring home. Their "stud dog" looked horrible. His tail was broken open, blackened and raw. The girls that picked him uppicked 20 ticks off of his shaved body. His ears were very swollen from bites. The top of his nose and the top of his head had scar tissue and was reddened, who knows what hit him. His teeth look like a 15 year old dog, not a 4 year old. And, this was one of the dogs they didn't want to give up because he was so"loved".They had multiple breeds, but 17 were English Setters.

Come to find out, their home's heater had broken two years ago and they were using space heaters to heat the house since they couldn't afford to fix it. Remember, Iowa had a very cold winter with minus temps for weeks. They also had no running water due to the pipes freezing. But, keep in mind, they were still going to dog shows!!!!

This is a case of animal hoarders and neglect...We, as dog breeders/owners/exhibitors, need to make sure that these people are never EVER allowed to own another AKC registered animal. Once a hoarder, always a hoarder! They turned10 dogs into rescue 4-5 years ago. Why were they allowed to accumulate this number of dogs? If not English Setters, it will be some other breed. The animal activist love stories like this and we MUST POLICE OUR OWN...

Please sign this petition to support a lifetime suspension from AKC and hopefully from ever owning another animal and if you have stories about this couple, please include it. I will be sending it to the AKC, Jackson County Animal Control and the English Setter Association of America to demand action be taken to insure they will never do this to any of our beloved dogs again.
