These establishments will negatively impact and destabilize our community. This is a major concern as empirical data shows that liquor stores in a community can distort perception of value. In addition, gas stations usually offer alcoholic beverages which creates an increased availability of different outlets for patrons to have for immediate consumption. This byproduct creates concern of public drunkenness, violence, and potential car accidents in our area. Durham Lakes is a middle-class and predominately African-American neighborhood and builders tend to place these unwanted businesses in areas than those that are more racially integrated. This per capita disproportionate concentration and factor is important to mention because data shows several correlations of high-risk results in our communities versus those experienced in other areas. We do NOT want these establishments in our area. We WILL PROTEST ON THE STREETS TO STOP THIS.
