I came out of Whalsay in 1957 and served an engineering apprenticeship with a company called Smith and Gair at Commercial Road Lerwick, which later went on to become HNP Engineers. It is vitally important that the training of young people in skilled trades continues as it is obviously how older workers can pass on a wealth of knowledge and experience which they themselves learned from a previous generation. Everything possible must be done to secure the future of HNP Engineers.

what is SLAP thinking about? they should be ashamed of what they are doing to one of shetland's most important firms. there will be plenty of accommodation for the students when the bruce hostel and janet Courtney are vacated.

I thought SLAP was formed to provide financial assistance to local businesses by leasing back property and assets when a business lacked the finance for outright purchase? Have SLAP forgotten the reason for their existence?

Regardless of how this rediculous decision has been made, ponder some more ( in ponder hours it will be a small %) and find a way to keep this business going. It is important for the community in many ways.

Worked for HNP for many years. Provides valuable services to fishing and local businesses. The deal would need to be investigated by inependant body. Good luck HNP

I am amazed that Shetland Council have not offered to act in an intermediary capacity to prevent this vital firm going under and so severely affecting the local economy

This seems to be indefensible nonsense and should be halted until the grounds for such action are clear. Only then can an equitable decision be reached.

This conduct by SLAP is not of a Democracy but once again displaying Dictatorial tendencies as being displayed by a questionable and legal issue that is not being addressed. It is no good avoiding the legal issues put before both company and I understand the Judge(es) who may not be legally acting within their Jurisdiction. Made even worse by failures to listen to arguments and points of law raised by the other side?. In an area such as this loosing the employer and 16 full time jobs is desecration. Surely some compassion can be shown for this firm and loyal employees!.
