I agree with what everyone has said! We certainly don't need a third gas station and the construction of this Esso with a pizza joint is a threat to the charm and growth of the community.
I understand the agreement for an Esso was signed in the past prior to the now existing new Ultramar - but it should seriously be considered for other use. I'm sure many of us would be agree that it is worth every penny to pay for the damages to the owner. There must be a solution, even if it meant a "Go Fund Me" page to help pay this corporation off.

I think we need to envision a small town community vibe that has beautiful character with unique shops and a nice place to stroll with family and friends....not just on Bruce street but on Arthur and king as well! Some of the commercial outlets you have mentioned are not really In line with what Thornbury is about. As mentioned...of course we expect growth and new commercial businesses and success of all types....but with some type of dignity and style. We do not have to be the victims of what other small towns have gone through and now regret. Have a vision, a plan, a design, an idea of what we we want to look like and who we want to cater to. We definitely do not need to let Arthur and king become a line of gross typical commercial sites and box stores like many other towns have become victim to. This would just be wrong and sad. We are better than that.....and it all starts with a vision, a plan and a goal!.....which has already been implimented as “The Sustainable Path”! We paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for this study, plan and booklet.....now lets follow some of it!

It is so sad that Esso is planning to build a gas station in the middle of our beautiful village. We already have two, and don't need a 3rd, especially so close to private homes. It seems all we have left to us is to boycott. btw there's alreay one Esso 12 minutes East of Thornbury, and another 12 minutes West of Thornbury.

I don't feel we need another gas station in town. However, should this petition actually stop the build, I am concerned that the TOBM will be liable for damages to the owner.

It really makes absolutely no sense to have a third gas station nor a second franchise pizza place in this town. I am so grateful and proud to patronize a small business owner that actually pumps the gas for you. I hope the move to interject this Esso station and another Pizza place into our community doesn’t force out UPI Energy Gas Station or New Orleans Pizza, who was here first. I really don’t understand how this can happen in a small town. Mind boggling really!!

You are very welcome to bring a gas station to our town but using up land that is within walking distance to our downtown would be an unjustifiable disgrace. Please explore alternatives

Who needs another gas station with the population of Thornbury. The existing stations are enough for local and drive through customers. Do we want to have a gasoline alley in our town? Tourist areas like Wassag Beach or Sauble Beach.
I am assuming they have the approval since they started by clearing the landsite

The town of Thornbury is in danger of losing its charm and personality by the addition/expansion of this sort of development - particularly located so close to our residential streets, shops, services and restaurants. We need to maintain a ‘small town’ footprint- not morph into another ‘nameless community’ of gas stations and box stores. STOP. What we need is more ‘priced right‘ housing that would allow first time buyers to invest. Please. No more gas stations.

It is my understanding that this got approved prior to the ultramar getting approval. Why did the ultramar then get approved? The town say they cannot restrict what land zoned as commercial is used for; they can restrict gas stations due to their environmental impact. This was a very poor decision, I presume made on the residents behalf by our town planners. Please can we preserve our town and it’s heritage and make it a destination for people as opposed to a strip of gas stations for people passing through; not a great advertisement for the beautiful town of thornbury; why are people going to come back and visit or move here if all they see as they drive through is gas stations and supermarkets?

The permanence of a 3rd has station when it or one of the existing go out of business has too many implications. Sure go ahead and open a restaurant. If it fails another business can take over but a gas station will always be a gas station and we just don’t need it.
