I understand new developers coming in will have a tax exemption. Also, under this new tax , big apartment rental companies will benefit like Mandy Management that is already well known as slum lords!! The homeowner will be responsible for footing the bill or will have to move because of not being able to pay.
The Wooster Square area will be hit the hardest. This year beginning in the fall I documented the lack of concern and irresponsibility on the mayor's part cleaning the parks. Throughout the fall the leaves were never vacuumed. I walked my dogs in ankle deep leaves, residents cleaned the sidewalks, and some raked and bagged the leaves. The next time the parks were clean was the week of the Cherry Blossom Festival this year!!! This tells me a lot about the mayor!!!
What about Fair Haven? Nothing is being done there, and there are other sections of New Haven that need attention. All Forgotten.
The mayor has to realize that New Haven will never become a Portland, Maine or Cambridge, Massachusetts!
It is an unfair tax,and a system that FAILS PEOPLE LIKE ME AND YOU!

It is time that the city lives within its means. I totally support a strong police dept, our fire dept, and public works and parks dept. I believe there should be a city tax for residents renting apartments and homes. Why is there such a burden on home owners?!

What a disappointment Mayor Elicker has become. I voted for him in the last election because he presented himself as having an understanding of what the ENTIRE New Haven community needed and expressed is mission to make this a livable an affordable city. Unfortunately, I know realize that he is yet another politician who knows what the citizens wants, shares is understanding and empathy for their (our) concerns/needs, and then just does what satisfies the powers that control him. At best he is a weak leader for the citizens, and at worst, a deceiver cut from the same cloth as most politicians are today. Nothing to do with us. Obviously we are the pack mules for whatever journey Mayor Elicker is on. However, his destination has nothing to do with our destination. You have lost my support Mayor.

This is not justified. Period. Our homes were re evaluated this year. With the additional income it is time to give residents a break

It never stops. The tax increase amounts to some $10 million. With family budgets being crushed by 8.5% inflation the Elicker tax hike will multiply the misery. The BOA with their fake public hearings will likely rubberstamp this mess. None of them actually listen. Never deploy savings. Never a cut. City Hall just adds expenses and kick us for more money. These hypocrites have the audacity to say they support affordable housing - their spending makes it more unaffordable to buy, own or rent in New Haven. They're disgusting.

Stop the increase. Senior citizens are stretched really thin as it is. The increase would only cause more stress and financial problems.
