STOP the Desert Flower Camping Resort on Highway 110

As someone whose house is on NM County Road 110, I strongly object to the Desert Flower Camping Resort LLC application to build a 24 space “Camping Resort” along this road. For the reasons stated in the seven articles of this petition, THIS APPLICATION SHOULD BE DENIED. Additionally, people moved to this location to get away from town lights and to enjoy a quiet peaceful life. We vigorously support all “Dark Skies” principles, which this so-called resort obviously does not. The noise and disruption to life in this area by this so-called resort is totally unacceptable. Light pollution, noise pollution, ground pollution, water pollution, etc. that this so-called resort brings will destroy everything people in this area moved here for in the first place. WE WERE HERE FIRST!! This area is also a haven for wildlife. Elk are among the many wildlife that roam this area and the presence of this so-called resort will disrupt this. Also, the aquifer is losing water due to the severe drought we are experiencing. Well-sharing among residents is common. How does Desert Flower Camping Resort LLC account for their enormous water use in their so-call resort? Once again, THIS APPLICATION SHOULD BE DENIED.

My husband and I were among the first homeowners on the southern end of Los Cordovas Rd, buying our house in 2004. This is a wonderful residential neighborhood, but traffic is already becoming a concern, especially on our corner, the SW corner of Los Cordovas and C-110. there already have been several accidents at this corner, the Stop Sign and speed limit signs have been hit numerous times, and the electric transformer box right on our corner was severely damaged recently by a car. This proposed Glamping campground is contrary to everything else in the area, will badly increase traffic, particularly with drivers not from the area. Numerous residents walk, jog, or ride bicycles along this road. This development would make this very hazardous. The issue of water and sanitation is another factor. Are wells going to be drilled to provide water for all the temporary residents to drink and bath with? Wells in this area are fairly deep, and it is a fact that our aquifer is not infinite. And what measures are proposed disposal of human waste? Many studies show that temporary residents have less regard for how much water they use then permanent residents. This change of use in part of our neighborhood will also negatively impact the value of each property as well. Do the developers plan to reimburse us for any devaluation of our homes? I doubt it. Most of us have but years of time and money improving our homes. We've paid to restucco, to landscape, all of which not only adds to our homes personal value, but to the overall value of the neighborhood.

I am opposed to this development for all the above stated reasons. Taos is a very special place, and it takes a community of very committed people to keep it that way for future generations.

I have lived here (mostly off grid ) for 35 yrs. I agree with all the oppositions to this campsite project. The water is scarce, the land fragile and the wildlife does not need any camping sites or more pollution in this area. It is NOT appropriate for our neighborhood. Why would anyone want to camp where it's dry, windy, hot with no trees anyway?

Completely opposed. Our community of residents should be heard!

At the online Taos County Planning Commission meeting on May 3 (yesterday), the planning commissioners approved this commercial project (3 to 2) in a rural residential neighborhood. Up to 46 people attended (about 7 of whom were the commissioners & staff). No one spoke in favor of the project (one tried but couldn't establish audio). Eleven spoke against it. This petition against the campground now has 106 signers. I've reviewed the proposal and listened to 4-plus hours of testimony at the meeting, and I still think this is a bad idea. With respect, if the developers think a campground is appropriate for this neighborhood, why aren't they planning to build their own home on the property and live among the tents? I wouldn't support that project either, but currently, the developers are trying to convince their would-be neighbors to live with a business that they wouldn't even live with. County planning staff said that the public has 30 days from the filing of the project to appeal it, and that we should check back with the planning office to find out if the project has been filed. This can only be bad for our property values. Let's have a strategy for the town and county that improves the appeal of Taos and keep tentgrounds in an area where they belong. Zoning is paramount.

I can't see any benefit to this proposed development towards the betterment of our local community.

I oppose this camping facility. Tis is not camping it is essentially a trailer park Air B& B business in a residential neighborhood

I am a Taos resident and oppose any variance or other permit for this proposed camping area.

Keep the area as residential. Increased traffic, noise and light pollution will change the natural beauty of our neighborhood. Deny the variance.

There are many elk migrations through the land in our neighborhood due to the proximity of the monument, Picuris mountains, and the access to the Rio Pueblo and Grande. We would like to keep our community residential for a lower population density to allow the wildlife to migrate through the land. We have also had bear and mountain lion sightings. Please respect the local residents’ requests!

Llano is a residential community adjacent to our national monument indicative of a fragile ecosystem and precious natural resources. Opening a commercial operation detracts from our neighborhood and puts unnecessary impact on the environment. If the proposal was for primitive campsites, on land that someone lived on (residential), I think our neighborhood would be more supportive. I do not recommend that the zoning is approved for a commercial operation in a residential neighborhood and that the impact on the environment is taken into account.

This project seems to be inconsistent with everything we need to be doing to improve our community. Need to focus on affordable housing instead.

This is a residential neighborhood, and environmental impacts are a given if this project proceeds. Completely opposed to this project.

Please preserve the residential character of our neighborhood.

Camping in residential community is not a good plan at all for multiple reasons. Should not be allowed to happen

Impacts to traffic and water aquifers from such a development will be very problematic.

Deeply concerned about the environmental impact.

This does NOT belong in a RESIDENTIAL neighborhood, I strongly oppose this.
