Stop the crime in Mauritius! Especially Crime-Stricken La Preneuse, Black River & Tamarin! Make the neighbourhoods safe.

I want to know that Tamarin, La Preneuse, Riviere Noir are safe places to stay for a holiday. Unless there are more police patrols, surveillance, I will cancel my holidays and urge others to do so.

Living in South Africa we have learned a few things: Only one thing works; patrolling with a quick response to apprehend perpetrators. They won't come if they they know they will be caught. Community partnership with police really works. Great initiative!

When will it stop? Who will be next?

No longer living in Tamarin, I feel concerned though as I used to live there for 10 years. If anyone intends to offense against somebody else's physical integrity while stealing, this is just not acceptable. As a support to this community I was part of, I want to sign. So many robberies in such a short period of time may indicate an ''Inside job" may have come into play at some point. As another measure we may not think of, let us inform our maids working at home to keep silent about what is going in our homes (when we are at home or not, what there is of value, etc...) because even if they are not necessarily involved in these crimes, you get to know people's lives very quickly if you speak to them and people with bad intentions may listen to what they say carefully to act. Amendments to the penal code are urgently needed as a crime deterrent. So go on doing what you think is necessary, since the good will always have the upper hand!

Il est important que la police ait les moyens de protéger les habitants de Riviere noire et Tamarin. Nous avons subit une tentative d'intrusion chez nous. Nous sommes tres choques. La vague de violence dans notre région est importante,,il est inconcevable que la police n'ait pas les ressources nécessaires pour faire son travail. Nous attendons une réaction rapide des autorités, du gouvernement pour arrêter ce carnage tres vite. C'est votre devoir de protéger vos concitoyens !!!

The police should be more proactive instead of hiding behind their desk or in their cars.

I also live in this area since 8 years and i am shocked how bad it has become. I hope that something will change.

What's happening to Mauritius ? It's starting to be like in South Africa here nowadays. Please help us make our island safe again.

As a past visitor to this beautiful island with plans to visit again in the near future, this is a huge concern. Not only should the visitors to the island feel safe, but absolutely the residents! May the government of Mauritius please listen to the requests and concerns voiced via this forum and stop the assaults on the people who choose to live in this beautiful place and visitors who want to spend their time and monies in a safe and secure environment.
