As much as I see great potential this program has, it is unrealistic to demand this for all members. Perhaps if the college offered free professional development courses we, as DECEs, would be more willing to take part of this. We are overworked, overwhelmed and underpaid for what we're expected to do within our job expectations for our employers. Now the college wants to add this to our plates. It's too much.

I am a recent graduate, and I understand that as an RECE I am a lifelong learner. However, I am not making nearly enough money to fund my endeavours to seek out new knowledge unless it's free or at a low cost. I actively search out articles and do everything I can to push my education further. I have not seen teachers go through these hoops and they make much more than I do as an RECE. With the minimum wage enhancement, I am now barely making more than someone with no education working in a retail position. If I was paid better, was given time off to attend seminars, or was compensated in at least SOME way, I would gladly do CPL to prove my efforts.

I have been working full time hours as an RECE with the public school board for the past 3 years as an “occasional staff” our positions do not allow for extra down time for all this additional paperwork when we are planing for our next school day every evening and weekends not to mention having our own families! It’s too much :(

I am both a teacher and ECE. Teacher's get paid for professional activity days and also are often eligible for a pay increase if they take additional qualification courses. What do ECE's gain by doing the CPL program? There is not much incentive, and as others have said it is tedious, stressful and time consuming. We also get paid much, much less than teachers. I don't have a problem with doing a certain number of webinars (or something similar) about topics related to the ECE field (as a do enjoy learning about our field and how to better my practice). However, I don't think it should be such an intensive process.

It’s worth a try but I have a feeling that this will be all for nothing. No one asks the people doing the job

Given the fact the ministry put new ratio regulations effective September, our centre went from 35hour weeks to 40 hour weeks. We lost $ on old Wage enhancement and the PWEG ($2/hr) has more restrictions then the old WEG (you don't get it if you're sick/on holidays)
We are being held to higher and higher standards (which is great!) But we are paying annually to the college which demands more and more paperwork and won't even issue us a card so we can prove to Michael's that we are teachers too for a discount. I mean honestly, the extra paperwork and the expectation that we do all of this professional development on our own time (which lets face it most workshops are in the evening because there's a shortage of supplies in most daycares). There's already so much evidence to show that it is a job with high burn out rates so should there not be more SUPPORT to ensure WE are taken care of so that we can do pur most important job - care for children?
I am all for professional development but this should be based on centres (ie: each centre needs to provide their staff with atleast X amount of hours of professional development. The pressure is building and there isn't much relief here.

While I agree with being held accountable and continuing our own education and growth. I feel this process is long, tedious and stressful in a field that does not pay very well and should be reconsidered.

Waste of time ! Where is the incentive for us to do this with the amount of money we make that keeps us living in poverty.

I am finding this very hard to do with also finding time for my family (3 young children)
we have so much to do for our classrooms and then we are expected to be $150 for our membership and do all this paperwork I feel is very unfair as we do just as much work as teachers but yet we are way underpaid and expected to do all this paperwork on top of it all where teachers are not

I enjoy workshops, webinar, reading articles but paperwork on the top is too much with family, work. I feel that the stress of doing CPL will affect my ability to perform better at what I do. I love what I do and don't want to feel it's becoming stressful and burden.

Too much - why so much paperwork? I have always set goals and attended workshops- don't need to be told to do it!
