Not fair that we have to pay $150 a year plus attend these work shops and cyw don't have to and make the same amount as us. We should not have to pay yearly membership fee. Teachers don't have to pay nor do they have to attend workshops or do any training or CPR. Definitely one of the most unappreciated careers.

We are not paid enough for this extra work ans our employer expects us to keep up with pd anyways! Huge waste of time!

13 years in the field and I’m having to look at leaving the field because the pay level isn’t a living wage for the work we do. On top of that if I don’t stay registered I can’t practice as or call myself an ece .....plus this? So sad, we are going to lose a lot of highly skilled educators if it continues this way :(

I agree. We are already paying a lot to renew our cards and on top of that we are underpaid and we all have families at home. When do we have time to do all this??? I dont see the point in any of this. This is too much work. If you want us to do all that then pay us more. This is ridicilious.

I agree with most that professional development is important however the time to do it is difficult. Most of us have families, underpaid, overworked, no prep time.. Plus what does this really give us considering there is no advancements in our job...

I think if the College wants us to do this cut back on college fees, government paid time for pd days, central supply office in every city or town and more money!

ECEs are professionals and do not the college to babysit them by policing how & when they do professional development.

We are truly overworked and underpaid, we should not be expected to be doing this extra unnecessary work. The field is going to lose alot more good ECE's if things dont change. We actually spend more time with the students than teachers and get no prep and one short lunch break. Please make us feel valued , we shouldnt have homework doled out on top of all this. We also have families to take care of when not at work, many ECEs will burnout.

I am always looking for ways to keep myself educated and up to date however this program is kinda ridiculous. I’ve searched for many workshops etc in the area I live and unless I want to travel 40-60 mins there is nothing. I don’t make enough money to pay for these course, travel time, babysitting costs etc. On top of it all I am raising my kids and don’t have a lot of spare time to sit in front of a computer and complete the task at hand. I am extremely upset that the college asks us to pay $150.00 a year to do this and yet I work along side a OCT who gets paid three times or more what I do and they have nothing like this to do. This needs to stop!!! We are under paid, over worked, and even over looked!!

I am a hard working RECE who participates in professional development ALL THE TIME! I provide reflections of my learning after each session and share my experiences with coworkers and other professionals in the workplace. I plan, observe, document and buy materials with my own money to provide enriching experiences for children. I am paid hourly and with the low wage, I am still living pay check to check, paying off student loans and trying to make a life for myself. I pay $150 a year to the college and do not need the added stress of being audited up to 6-7 years on keeping records of my goals and professional development for the CPL. Please reconsider the purpose or the requirements of this program.

I agree as educators we need to better ourselves continuously. However this program is an added stress during "personal" hours. As a new mother on maternity leave I haven't had time to accomplish what I am expected to for the CPL program but I stress about it often while up all hours of the night nursing my infant. Most employer's require a certain amount of training and PD days which I feel should already be meeting the requirements to work in the field. There must be a better way to ensure all members of the college are continuously educating themselves without the added stress.

I love professional development and I think we all obviously thrive on it. Personally I feel that we all do this ourselves anyways but without such a vigorous layout. If is becoming too much to do what I love as an ECE, so as much as I continuously develop my knowledge and skill base through goal setting and PD, I think asking us to document it in such a way becomes a bit much when looking at the compensation for doing so.
Hard pass.
