This CPL training totally a waste of time . Teachers aren’t required to do so why do we . We are underpaid and overworked we reserve plenty of training from the City of Toronto , and other agencies

We should have designated PD days as the school boards offer their staff.

The reality is that there is no one to advocate for RECE's. The College is in place to protect the public (Families/children). As a professional I don't disagree with furthering my knowledge but it should not be at the cost of my family time and my pay should definitely reflect the extra time spent doing this. Also the CPL should be very simple-we should show (either thru a certificate or simple notes) that we are all attending workshops that will help us grow and learn as professionals. Enough with the 20 pages of paperwork. I write out my goals each year during my review with my director. I shouldn't be spending HOURS writing out more! As someone mentioned before we are a sector with an already high burn out rate and extremely low wages. Media still refers to us a childcare workers and parents(not all) think we are babysitters. If this was a male dominated profession not only would men be demanding to make double (at the very LEAST) what the highest paid RECE is making today, but they would not put up with the petty, subjective opine of CRITERIA each year and would be marching at Queens Park to change some of the mounds of paperwork required for licencing. At this rate with no dominate association (like teachers federation for school board) we will eventually be giving baths, working 12 hour shifts and weekends and preforming our diaper/hand washing routines while doing a hand stand.

I love my job but the CPL is adding extra work and stress that take the fun out of our job. Are we not already professionals when we registered with the CECE????

I am wondering what the College has actually been doing so far for us with our money. Please support us in a feasible way instead of burdening us with extra paper work. If you visit us to see what is really going on in the field, it will help you to realize what you can do for us.

I've been saying this since the ELECT doc came out. It's great to say we want to be professional ECE's, but I thought I already was one. The college is filled with pencil/paper pushers that "brainstorm" wonderful ideas that we have to implement. Maybe they should come out from behind their desks and get involved in our classrooms to give us the time to implement all the wonderful ideas! BTW, THE COLLEGE ISNT THERE TO PROTECT THE ECE'S. THEY'RE THERE TO PROTECT THE CHILDREN THE FAMILIES.

This has caused so much stress for staff that are trying to document, observe, program plan and oh yeah, take care of children Too Much in their plates!!!

Professional development is a crucial part of any profession, but to add to the already everyday stresses to a person who is making low income wages is not acceptable. Many of these workers must find other part time work to help make ends meet. The stress of having a deadline hanging over their heads is also brought into the classrooms, which in turn transfers to the young students. Working groups would allow ECE workers to share ideas and experiences in a much shorter time and make the learning experience much more beneficial.

I think requiring a certain amount of hours of professional development a year with documentation (certificates etc)or a yearly on-line module could be options for our CPL. Professional development and keeping on top of what is happening in the field is important, but what is required with the current requirements for our cpl for the next two years is a lot to expect. Especially since a lot of us are working 40 hours or more a week, and already spend a lot of our personal time preparing for and documenting about the little people we care for every day. I feel this way and I have always been one to do more than the average (workshops, reading books and articles, etc) because I feel staying in the know is important. Please rethink the requirements for the CPL.

There is no better time to invest in our furture than in yearly years. Infant mental health is crucial and translates directly into contributing, healthy individuals. Invest more money here by providing a true living wage where professionals are able to provide for their families as well as the families they serve. It will reduce helth care costs and all other support systems. RECEs are always required to do more above and beyond their scope of work and we do it because we care! We have always participated in PD so why this CPL? It further demeans us and indicates that we operate unprofessionally. So please don't add to my stress both professionally and financially by making this so involved. It is not necessary or required by other teaching professionals. Make our professional fee either $50.00 per year or pay us a starting salary of $50,000.00 per year. Quality childcare should no be at our personal and professional expense.

While I understand the need to keep up to date on educational standards and constantly evolve so that we can impart knowledge in a thoughtful, mindful and fostering manner, I feel that educators in this field are already pushing the limits to their very best to do those things. As an educator, I do professional development through my employer when opportunities arise. I do lesson planning, take time out of my personal life to extra prep - which I shouldn’t have to do because it takes me away from my family life. There are many professions out there who do added work and are paid to reflect it. Adding in this extra workload to prove I am current is very stressful. I feel after the numerous years of working in this field, it is insulting to me that I still have to prove myself. I am constantly learning daily when I work my students because they are always teaching me something that helps me to prepare better for them. This demand to do CPL now ties us to our work requirements and therefore should reflect our pay. We don’t get prep time within a school board, and most educators don’t get team meetings to collaborate. Our names are on the COL which suggests we are considered professional educators. If that is the case, help get us the prep time and monetary recognition that we are deserving of.

I do not need homework. I put in lots of extra unpaid time so I can do my job well. Teachers get paid more and do not have to do this to keep their professional status. I do PD all the time. Documenting it just takes more personal time away.
