I’m all for professional development I love going to workshops etc. But I feel for what we pay the college what we make and then to put all the extra CPL as well is too much . I already keep track of my professional learning

I work for the school board full time, and am taking a degree program part time in the evenings. Needless to say I believe professional development is important as I attend many PD courses through my job as well as the Child Development degree I'm working towards. With the demands of the job, homework, attending class in the evening from 7-10, and my family, it's hard for me to find the importance in completing the CPL program as I am putting so much time and effort into the professional learning I find useful and beneficial to myself and with the CPL I'm still unclear as to what benefit and reward is once completing it. I understand it is professional development and that there is no reward but for completing it there should be some incentive because it seems to be a burden on many people's busy, overworked, lives.

ECES are over worked and under paid!!!!!! Paying $150 a year can’t be justified! The CPL program simply not beneficial to anyone!!!!!!!! My time after work is for my family!!!!!!!!

I am all for PD, but I do not have the time to do the CPL. My job and my child keep me busy enough. What is the college doing to help RECE's?

I'm on maternity leave and still have the stress of this!! It's ridiculous!

I am all about PD and it's a requirement at the organization I work with. I keep the certificates, it's just all the writing portion that is taking up alot of time after a long day.

I agree! While I'm all for professional development, the CPL program is just too much. I'm currently on maternity leave and it's impossible to sit down and do this thing while I have my son running around.

I agree, no one has time for this. Many of us are working two jobs to make up for our low wages. On top of having to pay to be a part of this college, we are now at risk to be kicked out if we can't find time to complete the CPL.

I just don’t understand why ECE need to do a CPL when teachers aren’t required to do them same thing.

i am in the classroom more than the “teacher”. I do more than my share of what is expected of me. Extra hours of planing on my own time, paying for materials not provided by the schools, still not recognized as a professional educator, low wage and EI, ovecrammed classrooms with so much behaviours that I am an EA too! how is this professional and yet more paperwork, videos and time to prove I am doing my job right. “Teachers” get an increase in pay for this stuff and RECE don’t ???? How is this right

If the College really cared about making sure that ECEs were providing the best care and best standards possible then they would be cracking down on school boards who have been steadily degrading the quality of kindergarten classrooms ever since FDK roll out. Children are crammed into spaces that would NEVER have been permitted under the Day-Nurseries Act, but now because of money and government thirst for short-changing our schools those standards don't seem to matter. Cleanliness and hygiene doesn't matter either, and neither does offering appropriate quite spaces or adequate materials for physical activity. All these standards are blatantly allowed to slip by the CECE, and yet they want to hang over my shoulder and police my own professional learning? That's what they've decided to spend time and the $150 I am providing yearly on? Such nonsense. Personally, I think every ECE should boycott the College for the corrupt and ineffectual institution it is.

As a supply ECE i work pretty much everyday, i do webnairs and watch videos and read to keep updated. I have 4 kids and the CPL is stressing me out. I have nothing left to give, no time, no money as I'm already making way less then a permanent employee with no benefits, no sick days, no care days, no disability if i were to need it. I do a bit of planning so i have things to take into my supply jobs as well. CPL and trying to do it makes me feel undervalued and unsupported.

I work three jobs to make ends meet because of how little we make as DECE’s. EI is a pain in the ass and already I’m penny pinching for the summer. I am also a full time mother of three two of which are going to college and university. It’s time we unite and stop being taken advantage of. Start treating me like a professional...salary and planning time anffd respect. Then and only then would I have time for extra paper work. Let’s see the college and my 150 dollars actually do something to support us instead of cause way more stress on us!

I don’t have enough of my time to do CPLs, I already have to donate my time to do my job

I agree 100%. My employer provides the PD necessary for me to keep up to date with the changes in my profession. I do enough unpaid work on my own time (planning, documentation, observations, reports) I do not have anymore time or energy the CPL requires. It’s time to view us as the professionals we are and trust that we are keeping current and up to date with PD. I know a lot of teachers that have zero training to implement the FDK. I have a lot more training than the 5 teaching partners I have had in the past 4 years.

There isn't enough time in a day to do everything we need to to be passionate educators as is. We struggle to have planning time and personally am taking lots of work home or doing extra things for the children. I do professional development when I am able and interested in topics. The CPL definitley adds to my stressors when thinking of everything else that needs to get done, and frankly, we should be paid more then!

Something to think about. We work hard at our jobs

It certainly is frustrating to pay the amount of money we do, and see nothing. Literally, NOTHING in return. I just had to look up if i'm still registered because I didn't even get any kind of confirmation that my renewal went through. I need to do my own PD, yet my board cancelled PD this year due to a lack of supply staff! We don't get paid enough, and do the same job as our teaching counterparts. Honestly, I feel like I'm being used for my skills. Why are you forcing me to do something and write a project like I'm in high school? Are we not trusted professionals? I see plenty of teaching staff in the school I'm in that never do PD. Who is holding them accountable?

This is too heavy of a workload on an already too busy life. We attend professional development workshops through our employers. Please do away with this CPL.
