I have been in childcare for 19 years. The expectations are getting to be crazy. Whatever happened to spending quality time with the children??? The College of ECE is setting new expectations that we have to do in order to have our RECE in good standing. Don't we have enough to do at our job including, a lot of documentation for walls, books, attending so many hours of PD, workshops etc...
Isn't this enough???
On top of that we now have to pay 150 every year to get paid as an ECE/ RECE

We need more support from our College. Workloads are insane and wages pathetically low

We hope college of ECE should understand what kind of job we have every day at daycare centre and what kind of life we have after work . Honestly , CPL is good training and it will improve RECE to getting more professional , but it is too much work that the way to do for each RECE. When we compare with other professional colleges, our RECE 's work and training won't less then another professional college members, but our wage is lower then everyone. We need to have a flexible time schedule to improve ourselves. We don't want to our life getting crazy more and more.

I enjoy attending workshops but do so on my off time and pay for the rising costs myself. I find it is taking away from my family life and part time jobs.
I think if we are to attend more professional development, more should be provided from the College. Events during work hours, I usually can not attend because I can not be covered. Or online events that start at 3. Who is this profession is done at 3pm?
I find the CPL has added stress to my workload instead of creating a approachable platform to showcase my continued learning.
I think the CPL has some good points but we need to adjust the approach. Being told I could lose my membership with the college, and in turn my career because I failed to provide the "correct" info on my CPL is a stress that keeps me up at night.
Lets change this to help motivate and lift each other up, positively to help gain more respect for everyone in this field.
We work so hard, lets reconsider the approach of the CPL.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour states that 'Training Time Section 6 of Reg. 285/01 = Time spent by an employee in training that is required by the employer or by law is counted as work time. For example, where the training is required because the employee is a new employee or where it is required as a condition of continued employment in a position, the training time is considered to be work time. Time spent in training that is not required by the employer or by law in order for an employee to do his or her job is not counted as work time. For example, where an employee hoping for a promotion with the employer takes training in order to qualify for it, time spent taking the training is not considered to be work time.
Bottom line is that they should be paying us for additional work that is required after hours. I agree 100 % that CPL should be revisited! We should as a group be able to vote on suitable training that is purposeful not drawn-out over two years.

Time off for filling out the CPL should be paid by the employer. Wage increase should be paid for completion of these forms.

It's a lot to ask of RECE's who already put in a lot of their own time to meet all necessary programming requirements mandated and asked of them. Like the petition states, we ARE NOT against professional development but to put a timeline on it and then, should it not be done on time and correctly, threaten to take away their right to use their diploma and education (that was hard earned and paid for) is a bit harsh and extreme. We would like our membership costs to be used to support us not be used against us. There are already so many regulations, policies and protocols in place that we have to know, follow and are monitored, evaluated and "graded" on that this just adds more to our already full plate. We want more qualified, dedicated, motivated and passionate about teaching individuals to choose and stay in this field and not be discouraged by all of this. Please reconsider.

When we entered collage in 1988 we committed yourself to ongoing and lifelong Professional Development..however it should not take money away from families. At this point I have noticed that now that it is " mandatory" workshop fees have increased and many of the workshops are repeatative for those of us who have been in the field for 30 years.

How about offering hands on workshops with the money we pay every year to renew our menbership that offer us a chance to further our professional development .
We have enough on our plate with the low wages and LACK of respect for our profession . Support us don’t give us more unnecessary paper work to do that takes time away from our personal lives . Enough

As RECE for over 10 years and feeling the disrespect from the schoolboards and staff by not being considered an actual staff (we are only the supporting staff), I feel this is a slap to the face. How can the College of ECE call us professional educators and leaders in our classrooms when our own principals won’t even invite us to staff meetings and questions us when we do attend. The staff meetings are as well conveniently held at class hours where RECEs must be present within the classroom.
My daughter who is now a teacher is angered by the difference in the support our college provides in comparison to hers. Her pay is substantially higher for doing much less work that I do in the classroom and she is given a higher respect in her teaching field.
I was a teacher for over 20 years overseas (I have my teaching degree) and became an RECE here, because my education degrees were not accepted here. Professional development is something that I and all RECEs, CECEs, DECEs and ECEs do on a regular basis, because we all love what we do. The college not only needs to increase the pay of its workers, but as well provide paid programing time (similar to teachers), show more respect to them and fight for its member, these CPL papers do none of the above. All RECEs are only seeing this as a threat. The little time that we have left needs to be spend with our families and working at other jobs (since this one can’t even support a living).

I work for a schoolboard and in doing so receive training on a regular basis! I also complete an annual learning plan for myself and set goals for the upcoming year! I feel this CPL is just adding stress as well as time & energy for RECE’s who already work in a stressful field!!

It is a lot of work when there is very little time and energy left at the end if the day. My job already provides on going professional training, workshops and yearly annual learning plan - goal setting with the school board. Please reconsider the CPL - it is too much of an expectation. Many other professionals ie) gas fitters only have to pay their fee to be a member and they get a nice card to show they are part of that. They do not have this heavy load of expectations put on them.

I am a RECE working with DPCDSB. I'm always attending Profesional development in service workshops and currently taking a Certification in Early Childhood Education Resource Consulting I am aware of the importance of growing professionally as it elevates my standars and high quality as an educator.
With the very high student -educators ratio in the FDK classes, the high needs of our students, the lack of "Planning time " and the low pay compared to our fellow OCTs I feel that being pressured to write an extensive CPL is too much to handle.
Thank you.
