I believe professional development is important in all careers .. on work time ... how would the employees who created the CPL feel if they were told they had to create this program on ‘their own personal time’?.... this is what you are asking of us. Please be mindful that EVERYONE’S time is valuable and with the increase awareness of mental health and wellness, the added stress this is creating , both financially and mentally, with timelines of completion is greatly noticeable. Your colleagues are telling you that this is too much right now...please please be mindful of what you are asking us to do and make revisions... deadlines and worrying if our credentials will be in jeopardy (credentials WE worked for and earned).... is unreasonable. Again...everyone’s time is valuable and this needs to be addressed and revised ASAP. Many people work multiple jobs.... work long hours and simply work hard during their work day. They are burnt out... please be mindful of this... and consider what your colleagues are saying.

As a group we are already underpaid, it is completely unreasonable to ask us to put in extra time and effort just to prove that we are competent. Engineers and other professionals have to jump through less hoops and their pay reflects their work. Not to mention the increase in fees, which is likely due to the increased man power to audit the CPL. It's stealing from the poor. There are other methods out there that they could be using that would take less time and effort and yield the same results.

I'm very upset with the CPL development portfolio I think it is ridiculous. What am I paying 160 for? The paperwork that comes with the CPL development?

I am all for professional development, in fact I love it! I am finding hard that we have to document so much. Not only for our students but also for ourselves.

If these expectations are going to continue with the college of ece then the college needs to do more to help us recieve higher wages

I firmly believe in continuous learning and professional development we learn something new everyday. Professional development is good for everyone. There are many opportunities for PD in our daily work and there are many, many webinars and workshops offered online and through work I make notes all the time and like Brittany I write down what is relevant to me from those workshops my binder of CPL is filled to the over flowing. Once this round is done we have to do it again that part I don't understand. Our wages don't go up. I love my job and providing an education for our children and working with my teaching partner and parents and staff. I do many things for work on my own time, I agree with Brittany demands are increasing we aren't paid for our time and our wages aren't enhanced and we are still seen as "helpers" by parents and staff we are not recognized as professionals and are not shown any respect for what we do.

I agree, teachers don't have to do all this extra paper to prove that they are on going to workshops.

I understand the importance of providing the best care for the children and working well alongside parents and staff. There are wonderful workshops to help keep us up to speed with different directions and research in child development. Now I need to provide documentation as proof I went? I know with myself, when I make notes, I focus on that point I'm writing, and sometimes I miss what else is said. This could mean something of importance, or even worse, an "ah ha" moment. Now instead of spending time with my family or having some down time so I don't burn out, I have to focus on this, which I am not compensated for the time taken to complete it OR recognized for it. The colleges direction seems to be helping parents, but in the process, it's neglecting the members which will eventually drive us out. We won't be able to keep up with the increased demands, and now even increased fees to use our title and knowledge we paid THOUSANDS of dollars to get through college. I love this field as it is my passion, but if fees keep increasing for no reason, demands are increasing as they forget about us ECE's personal lives, we aren't paid for our time and our wages aren't enhanced, I'll be looking into switching up fields where my work is recognized and my time is respected.

If I could work in the field and not be a memuof the college I would Do it in a heartbeat! Shame on them for making us do paperwork on our own time just so the employees of the college can validate their high paying jobs! Shame

It’s not realistic to get this completed when you work full-time and when you have down time, you want it to yourself not doing extra work.

Absolutely ridiculous. Teachers are not required to do this. Why are we?

I agree with the post. We all support PD but expectations and amount of work put on us is ridiculous. Most employers already have internal requirements for PD and annual learning goal expectations. For the college to add even more onto us is too much for individuals to keep up with h.

I have no problem paying a fee to the College. I do not agree with the CLP program. I read books, I go to PD offered from my board, I watch webinars, I collaborate with my teaching partners, I also do an Annual Learning Plan with my employer and set goals for the year. I really think that this is sufficient enough. I need down time not more work.
