The CPL is so stressful! We are the lowest in the school for pay, breaks and respect. Highest for work with no prep or planning time with our partner. Paying the fee each year is already higher than any other union and on top of that we have the stress of CPL.

I am in courses currently and on mat leave as a single parent but have recently returned to work I’m busy doing the homework in my course - your requirements greatly affect me and we pay more then teachers but they at least get legal aid when needed

Hit the nail on the head with some of the big issues in the profession.
I worked at a low income centre that was pretty much mostly subsidized and made min wage without the WEG. Before the pandemic I was putting in plenty of personal hours into the job, between planning, pd, documentations, and shopping (with my own money) for my program. I loved the centre and the people I got to work with..I stuck around there for 6 years because of the people there, certainly not do the pay but the system, the college, employers and the government take advantage of people like us who want to be the best educators we can be by expecting more outside of the hours we work.
The pandemic only many these existing issues worst. The cost of living is through the roof but many of us are only making minimum wagesl still (WHICH SHOULDNT BE A THING IF YOU'RE REQUIRED TO HAVE A COLLEGE DIPLOMA TO BE QUALIFIED TO RUN A ROOM. If you want someone else's hard earned money to benefit your business or even to help the economy move along, you need to invest in them. The pay makes it so none of us who are qualified want to work on the field.)
Why is it that now I'm moving to Alberta I see that they didn't charge me to be certified and ask you continue with PD to stay up to date in the profession . They didn't want $160 and then to also expect us to spend even more of our time (time is money) on homework we shouldn't have any more. What did an i do my 2 year program for?
And let's be real. They say the cpl is to make sure quality staff are working in the field but I assure you, the cpl isn't weeding out anyone. Really terrible people will do the cpl and still be really terrible and awful educators who end up on the list of cases the college has to deal with. We worked with someone who did all that crap and was abusing kids when no one was looking. The cpl is a fallacy and needs to be gone alone with this ridiculous amount of money they expect when it doesnt give us any benefits besides tha

Burnt out, overworked and wages too low! If no changes are made by the College than I will not be renewing my membership this spring and leaving the profession!

Agreed cpl is taking too much of our personal time away in already a very busy underpaid field. Especially over worked during covid. We already do paperwork at our jobs. And we have to already do workshops and professional development as a requirement of our workplace. It's too much.

During the pandemic I find it hard to believe that they still are having people pay $160 for a membership, as some have lost their jobs, bills add up, etc. it’s unacceptable. The CPL requirements should be changed as we have already so many things we are doing that fall under the Code Of Ethics. Things need to be reconsidered.

I believe in professional development and don’t mind coming up with goals but all the extra prove, self assessment etc is beyond demanding. There’s no time for all this extra work. It puts so much stress on each of us.
They just take money and don’t do anything for us
We are not even paid a professional salary
