I agree that time is a factor. I was working on this on the last PA day with a fellow RECE in the school board. She and I were discussing and collaborating to make our understanding better of how it works. We received some scrutiny from coworkers who are not in our field and pressure to be assisting in our rooms with menial tasks like gluing instead. There needs to be awareness and allotment for these activities to be done on work time and not family time. Also, it's very discouraging when teachers who make at least double what we make and are paid year round are paying less for yearly fees, and now finally the same, and now we are going up even more. Just discouraging and disappointing. Maybe funds should be used for actual membership cards (it can't cost that much for each member to have a flimsy card) and less money to pay wages and for catering and travel expenses.

There should be online short courses or professional development by companies and all ECE should be paid to do so. I agree with petitions there is more stress rather than benefits. Companies should be responsible to enrich their staff not us doing paperwork during family time or personal time

Cost is too high as is and the added paperwork is stressful. I myself am on back to back may leaves with a sick baby and find it difficult to stay on top of.

I am disappointed with the lack of support the CECE has given to their members. It has become more of a disciplinarian than a support.

I’m heartbroken to say that when I finish work I have about 3-4 hours of time to see my family and follow through with things that need to be done at home before I fall asleep only to get up bright and early the next day. My weekends are my only free time and I feel like we don’t get enough recognition for the things we already do before the College piles more on top of our plates. I know so many friends and colleagues who agreed that if they’d known this was the price to be an RECE they would not have gone through with it.

We need more support and advocacy for the important work we do, not more burdens. We are incredibly low paid professionals who cannot afford additional fees.

My thoughts on continuous learning are that I feel pressure in career I’m barely thriving in. Most EA’s and teachers don’t understand our purpose, the harder I work to be relavent and be the best educator I can leaves me exhausted and the teacher I’m assigned just takes advantage and gives me more work. While I have no prep some days no breaks, I did both the 40 min lunches and outside recess by myself. Add that up that’s two 40 min lunches for my partner plus her regularly scheduled 3 hrs maybe more of prep of week. I know you don’t know me but I’m a dedicated educator I love my job but between feeling unappreciated in your place of work and by the college who is designed to over see you. It’s down right frustrating. It’s almost like having the government assign us yearly assignments on how to be good citizens or proper Canadians and if you don’t complete it then you’ll be put in jail or pay a fine! Work and life are important but when I’m doing work st home and my kids are great they’ll help, it’s hard to take on a third job for work. You as a college are there to offer us support, to monitor us but you should not be government of bodies DICTATING and DISCIPLINING us if we do not what you want when you want. I believe that’s why we live in Canada, freedom of expression and will. Provide us with opportunity and we will learn our culture right now in EARLY LEARNING IS PROVIDING CHOICES, why as adults do we have all our choices taken away.

I am a RECE, currently working as a DECE in a school board. I am also taking a Leadership program course on ECE Resource Consulting through an online program at Seneca College. I'm working towards increasing my expertise and my professional development in the field. I am alo a single mother who works a part time job to support my family. I am 100% supportive of increasing my professional standards w but I don't have any more time left to add another paper rekatef work such as the CPL (although I have done it to this poibt). I also don't have extra money to spend on increased membership fees, which by the way, take a long time to renew. I'm signing this petition to advocate for myself, my profession and my fellow ECE colleagues. We are aware of our professional responsabilities, but we are also terribly under paid and over worked. We hope that the CECE will continue being our voice and continues to advocate for all of us. Thank you kindly.

I attended university for 4 years receiving a degree in early childhood education in 1990. I have worked in the field continuously since then. During that time I have kept up with continuous learning and professional development. I totally agree that ECE's need to learn and grow in an ever changing profession. That being said I believe the college's CPL requirements are confusing, unrealistic and time consuming for most ECEs. I am offended by the fact that the college feels the need to threaten suspension or removal of it's members if their timeline for CPL is not met. I have earned the right through my education and work experience to the title ECE , on my degree it actually says "rights and privileges". How can the college simply take that away if their CPL requirements are not met? Most ECEs will tell you they are in this profession because they believe teaching young children is an important and valued career. They have a love for their profession that certainly surpasses any monetary benefit they receive. I am all for legitamizing our field and was thrilled with the idea that a College of ECEs would bring that recognition and support to our profession. In the years since it's formation I have seen very little in the way of support or recognition. An increased yearly membership and more time consuming paperwork is the direction the college has taken. The Ministry of Education has increased our workload with added paperwork and documentation and now the college has seen fit to do the same. As a professional I can recognize the value in what they both are trying to accomplish but at what cost? We are spending more time doing paperwork and less time with the reason we chose this field in the first place...the children.

Agree...professional development is important but the pressure from the college and the fees are too much.

Attended a CPL seminar hoping for some encouragement and direction. My coworkers and I left feeling degraded, confused and totally disheartened. More emphasis was put on the disciplinary actions that would be taken against members who failed to do the CPL than encouragement and offering opportunities to complete this task. We all take courses that are offered to us throughout the year to keep us up to date and current but we’re told that those could not be included. I don’t feel that this college has anything to offer or support us other than their own agenda of coming up with rules and hoops for us to jump through. I already, as most DECE’s do, spend my evenings, weekends and time I could be spending with family and friends researching, planning, and making resources to support the kiddos I work with and love.

The college provides no PDs or support for the ECEs and the fee is going up. The time it takes to process current renewals is REDICOULOUS and the college is failing it’s members big time. A lot of ECEs are still making the minimum wage and this increase is hard on the financial situation. With CPL the ECEs are Asked again to independently put in the extra time and work while we have full time jobs and the CPL doesn’t really affect our day to day job, but for some reason we have to prove to the college that we are doing our part.
