I agree 100% with professional development but I think the CPL is far too time consuming for a profession where ECE’s are already working so hard at their jobs and doing extra on their own time and trying to have personal lives too. Why can we not be given a certain amount of hours for professional development over a two or three year time frame. We can keep receipts/certificates as proof for our records. The method being used now does not treat us as professionals as it is very “college directed.” We are educated adults and should be treated as such.

I do many workshops. keep my first aid up to date. But this CPL booklet is taking alot of my own self care time away from me, as well as my time with my own family .As I run my own home daycare.

I am not working in the field directly right now because of this, had had enough.

I’m not opposed to professional development but I do have to agree with the above statement with the expectations and lack of time given for the CPL. I unfortunately do not even have enough planning/prep time to get all the things I need to get done during my work week. Most of this work I do is on my own personal time and I feel that this extra work is not justifiable nor is it fair. Burn outs are happening at a faster and larger pace. Please keep our well being and mental health in mind or give us the time needed to do this extra work.

CPL is unnecessary, the cost is high and the service is awful. We should be responsible for professional development but only hours no written component. If a written component is necessary give us access to answer questions online and submit every year on how we grew and strengths/weaknesses.

I am currently rethinking this profession after 24 years due to the yearly college fees when I only work 18 hours per week and also the workload required by the CPL

Simplify the process please, too much to think after work, or give us time preparation like teachers have, thank you!

It might not seem hard to some but to others it is. Not all of us have all this extra time for paperwork. And our membership should definitely not be on the line.

We are already tired at the end of the day, no time to do extra work. We are doing workshops, webinars and online reading, what else do you expect from us.

The CPL, while I understand it, is time consuming, an added stress and takes away from the already limited time I have with my family in the evenings (I get home by 6:30 and my kids go to bed at 7) and weekends.

Every word is true, there isn’t enough time in a day. Working full time and still being a full time mom/wife is taking everything in me I have to give. There has to be another way to show that we are still learning in our jobs!

We are all involved in continuous professional development. A better way would be to just have members track and list their PD.

I find that as a professional in these field i’m always doing continuous learning through workshops readings discussions with co workers and the cpl adds extra stress and paperwork that I don’t find helpful.

There is too much added stress. I am always learning through my job and professional development that the school board offers on a monthly basis, as I’m an ECE in a kindergarten classroom. I fully support everything in this petition. Thank you for listening and taking our voice into consideration.

We need support, not more paperwork.

I totally agree...professional development is important but forcing through random questions/goals and long forms for proof is too time consuming and all over the place with the threat of getting audited...I think as a College providing lists of informative, relevant and affordable courses or seminars is what should be happening.
