I feel the membership fee is way to high.
I also disagree with people being able to work as eces and get paid same amount but not being registered because they are in school. Need to wait until graduate and pay fee like the rest of us.

I would rather be a member of the AECEO who actually advocate and help RECEs as opposed to the CECE who only causes more stress and work for us.

I am totally for professional development, but this set up is lengthly and very repetitive. Perhaps a different way of going about it.

As someone who suffers from Anxiety and Depression I find getting through my shift is an accomplishment. Having the extra stress of the CPL makes me super nervous and stressed.

This is putting undue stress on an already full workload. Teachers don’t have to report of do additional professional learning to be reported to their College of Teachers. Professional Learning should be a personal matter and I feel I am treated like a child being monitored. It’s bad enough we have to pay the fee and can’t work unless we are a member of this college, but are forced to do this CPL and have no say or vote on whether we want this program is unjust.

This is way too much for it to happen every 2 years! A lot of us have to have part time jobs as well to afford to live and none of this helps us get a promotion or a raise like it does with the teachers . I cannot do this so often .

The cpl should be voluntary, and the membership fee is outrageously high! Reduce costs.....move the offices out of downtown Toronto, the MOST EXPENSIVE site that could have been chosen. The welders were angry when their association membership DOUBLED!.
..TO A WHOPPING 60 BUCKS A YEAR! I want justification and a spending breakdown of where our very jard earned money goes....or better yet get rid of the college all together....it was an experiment that failed miserably for the only ones it matters to....ECE'S!!!!!

I agree with professional learning, I have nothing against it. However, I work in an academic centre and a lot of this doesn't even apply. I work so hard and so long (I'm there from 7-430) with an hour drive home, to where I have to take care of my daughter and get her to bed before 8pm, if I'm lucky (just to have her awake again by 530/6). There is not enough time in the day to have everything done. Repeating every 2 years is stressful, let alone working on it regardless. I have a hard enough time paying bills and child care barely making above minimum wage...and then having to pay for a membership that gets me what? Not much in my opinion.

I do agree with professional development but 100% believe that the CPL takes far too much time to complete. I work both a full time and part time job and don't even have time for myself to get a good night rest much less to find the time to work on the CPL. Staff burnout is showing across board and an audit of receipts should be acceptable for the CECE to use as proof.

Having to do the CPL is like a part time job on top of my already overworked and underpaid job. It’s ridiculous to think that we have time to do something like this. Why not just have us pick one area we want to focus on a year and attend one workshop for it. Done...this is daunting and I bet half of us aren’t even implementing it and don’t need more on our plate.

I agree 100% with professional development but I think the CPL is far too time consuming for a us, I do an opening shift by the time I finish from here I got to go home cook dinner spend some time with the family then it's time to go to bed so I can get up and next day and do it again, weekends is when you're able to catch up doing your groceries running your errands Sunday I go to church I want to spend it with the rest of my family when am I supposed to find this time.

I completely agree with this petition. It is very difficult to follow the cpl program, when most of it doesnt make sense. How is it self development when im doing it just to get it over with and not actually use that time to better myself as an educator?? To make sense of the requirements i need to take time out of my already limited private time. And that isnt even including actually covering what is “expected” of me. Why am i paying $150+ per year to be harassed about none-sense? Theres gotta be a better system to facilitate self development. Without better pay and cover, what quality of self development is to be expected? Child care in all its aspects needs to be taken more seriously, or the future looks grim.

I am definitely not against professional development. We have a requirement that must be completed each year in order to maintain our employment. I am fortunate to have a team that helps find courses or workshops that help meet my personal goals. I find that I have so little personal time to complete the CPL paperwork. If it was a requirement of employers to make sure that staff complete personal goals and the PD to help support them then we could stop with the extensive additional paperwork.

The CPL requirements are ridiculous. I can facilitate my own need to professional development and do not need a governing body to dictate to me what is best. We are underpaid and overworked and out "supportive" college only piles on more pointless work and stress

I already do 6 or more professional development workshops throughout the year and am always updating myself on new methods and ideas in the field. Any prep time I do have at work I am doing documentation and activity setup/research for the children. I have no time to work on any documentation for my CPL on top of that and refuse to take that time away from my family to do it, I already take time away to do the workshops I want to. I have been in the field for 16 years and have considered leaving as it seems like the workload keeps getting more and more with no time to do but to take the time away from my family or myself for self care to prevent burn out. Figure out other requirements for mandatory Professional development or I can promise you that a lot more ECEs will burnout of the field or leave out of frustration.

CPL is far too much extra work for already busy professionals and too “College directed.”
There has to be a simpler model-maybe a set number of hours for PD in a specified time frame. Receipts and certificates kept as proof.
