I feel this is a lot to ask working full time and being a full time mom. I barley have time to do what I have to in a day. Also 160 every year to keep my licenses is insane. Teachers don’t even pay that and we don’t make half as much as them. This is super upsetting.

Well said by everyone. We have to do this portfolio now till retirement! We attend Pd’s through our schools and do our own networking and professional learning. Who are they to decide that our portfolio isn’t done well enough and suspend our membership ... therefore not allowing us to work. If we were doing such a poor job our school evaluations would be written and we would be talked to. You are right ... this is a time for ece’s to stand together and fight this CPL!

CPL should not be mandatory or something to pay into! If I choose to take a work shop, read articles, etc. to continue to grow as an RECE, that is my choice. My unpaid hours are mine to do as I see fit. Not to work more and pay someone else for my own time! If this keeps up I’m sure there will be a shortage of ECE’s as this ridiculous demand is just not worth it to stay in an already difficult and stressful field, especially when the college doesn’t seem to offer any support to hard working ECE’s!

I have no problem with professional development. It helps us as professionals and helps the children we care for.
I don't understand why we have to be stressed out and show proof and take time out of our own family time to do more assignments. My school makes sure I am up to date and makes sure I doing Pds that should be enough.
Daycares and home care agencies have raising the bar. Ppl already have to take time out of their busy lives for that. CPL is a waste of my time. I have 2 small children at home. When am I to act them neglect my house work and neglect my husband not to mention neglect my own self care to work on my CPL?
Also I was 2 days late in renewing and was charged 50$ on top of the 160. For what? I don't even get a card anymore? What are we paying for?? What did my 50$ go towards?

I’ve been in the field for over 20 years and have yet to see any good come out of being an Early Childhood Educator. I discourage people at every opportunity I get from pursuing this line of work. It is becoming more and more stressful to do this job with no recognition or decent compensation. And then we pay $160 yearly to be registered with ongoing homework as long as we work in the field. It’s high time ECEs took a stand.

Multiple times a day I see posts from people who are so confused about the cycle of the CPL. This would be fine if the college offered any support to us. However, that is not the case. People are unable to get through on the phone, emails go unanswered, and there's just generally no support. Don't roll that a program that you can't support and attend to.

When working in childcare or in a school board we are ALWAYS continually taking and involved in professional development it’s part of the job. The college should be aware that it is part of our job. Why do they need to add on this burden of EXTRA work. Back off! Stop spending our money foolishly and provide us with free PD and don’t make us do this extra work.

I think the CPL is ridiculous. I have my OCT as well and we are not expected to do this. We are expected to do PD and AQ courses but do not have to show proof of this. ECE’s are already under valued and underpaid. This adds more stress and will create more people to burnout faster because they are constantly worried about it. To be honest, I’m not sure how the professional goals are any of the colleges business. That’s personal and will be different from person to person. How are they going to dictate what you did to achieve your goal was good enough? It’s really none of their business. I can understand them having us sign a yearly document saying we understand the code of ethics and standard of practice. The CPL is too much on top of what you have to do for work and family, you are not left with a lot of time to spend quality time with your family and little kids. Get rid of the CPL!

as an ECE you never stop learning. And going to workshops and self reflecting is very important in our job. But so is all the hours of documentation, work prep, and all the other work we do for our jobs. Not even including the hours we spend after hours for work! Mommy, wife, me time and now we have all this other stuff to do! It’s too much to be honest, and now I’m very stressed that what I’ve made won’t be good enough and I’ll be suspended.

I would rather do proof of PD with a list of things we have attended with signatures that we went and maybe a small description of what we learned. Apart from it to be completely honest I have no time whatsoever to do this unless on my own time when I'm with family. I already work from 10:45 u til 6:15 everyday. I'm not trying to complain here but can we make this fair please that's all we ask. There has to be an easier way for us. Just beacuse we are speaking up about thials doesn't mean we are lazy or don't want ti do the work, as a matter of fact we live what we do! We work hard every single day in the classroom. We just do not have the time for all this paper work it's too much and not humane to ask us to get this all done when? Where? With what time? Please be fair to us as we want more people to stay in this profession.

The expectations are becoming quite overwhelming for many of us. Now with selected audits coming out to see if we are on track with our CPL requirements. What next?? Some of us have more than this job because it doesn’t pay the bills. I’m feeling stressed out as it is. ECE’s are being targeted and it’s not cool. We put a lot of extra time and care when it comes to planning and implementing. Centres which are created with our own money I might add. How about a little support here, and less pressure. Financial support would be even better, but doubtful.

As a designated early childhood educator since 2014, rates of the membership fee had gone up and quiet frankly so have the expectations. Our role in a fdk classroom are already so stressful and time consuming just educating and redirecting students we dont get a enough time as it is on the classroom. For us to bring home work and to complete the program its overwhelming and our time is spent more on paper work rather then taking the time to breathe. I honestly feel that as an educator I fulfill what is expected of me in the classroom and plus but have no time for my self and family already. Its added stress and I feel that it can be overwhelming to feel like we aren't doing enough when realistically we are doing more then what is needed.

I’m for PD, but the CPL program adds more stress to educators. Personally I’m too exhausted and stressed as it is by the end of my work day, the last thing I think about is working on the CPL program. To ask educators to give up their personal time without pay to complete this is unfair, we should be given time at work to do it or be reimbursed for our time. We pay a yearly fee that continues to increase yet we have nothing to show for it and no support in return, but can have it all taken away because we don’t want to give up family time to work on the CPL? I run a home based business alongside being an ECE to help offset financial stress, and therefore have less time to work on my CPL, I feel for those that have had to get a second or third job to stay on top of their bills and have to worry about being audited now as well!
I became an ECE to educate children, not do enormous amounts of paperwork.
