Why do we pay 160 bucks for absolutly nothing other than to be able to call ourselves rece or eces them on top of that to prove we are bettering ourselves....

I was just talking to my colleagues about the same things. What is the college doing to insist that a lunchroom monitor should not be covering my workload while I’m on strike and picketing? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I worked so hard and struggled to earn my diploma while working a full time job and someone without any degree can work in my classroom? I am definitely NOT impressed with that move!
Dear CECE, please fix this!

Yes, I agree with this petition because granted professional development is important but another system needs to be in place that is not time consuming and stressful but yet shows our professional learning.
If majority of the members are opposing this then the College in all fairness needs to listen to the members and find another way to keep members updated in their professional learning.
KEEP THIS ADDTIONAL STRESS OFF OUR SHOULDERS. OUR ORIFESSION IS ALREADY STRESSFUL. YOU ARE THERE TO KEEP THE PRO MEMBERS IN THIS PROFESSION WHO ENJOY WORKING FOR THE CHILDREN.
PLEASE REFLECT.

I’m not quite sure what my membership is so expensive. Is it to cover the cost of the white leather couches in the waiting area of the building? I’m paying money to be considered a professional, yet I’m not paid as one and the college I pay gets to drop more work in my lap. Can someone explain this???

Overwhelming paperwork. I am a responsible ECE that works very mindful on what and how I plan and program.

ECEs are working hard and they are underpaid. Asking them to spend extra time and money to complete CPL is not fair.

I agree that as an ECE it is imperative to continue your professional learning and be aware of changing standards but not at the price of my sanity. Our jobs are stressful and demanding as is not to mention we are underpaid for the amount of work we do. The pressures of the CPL add to the stress we are already enduring. I for one am extremely frustrated as a DECE who works with the school board to receive an email last minute (a day before a strike day) a day after the announcement is made that auditing will start in March that the board is offering a workshop that will be held on the two strikes days, that can help us with our CPL but limit it to only 20 spots and is first come first serve. What about the other hundreds of DECE who may need some guidance with their CPL’s?

I feel that this extra work of the cpl is too much. My days are long as it is and not enough time to be with my own children at home. Plus we already take the time out our nights and weekends to go to workshops which leads to finding a babysitter and a full day away. I mean I don't mind the workshops for the fact that I do get some great info to help me grow in my job as it is and help improve things that I was already taught through this workshops. So I feel that these are plenty and rather do a write up or explained how I used the workshop in my job.

All this extra work put upon us is ridiculous. We get added enormous amounts of work but yet our pay stays the same. We are already burned out by the end of the day AND the end of the week and we are expected to get our CPL's done EVERY YEAR!! Where is our down time? Family time? Hobby time? Give us our freedom. We do not have time on top of our very busy day for this. We deserve our weekends and nights just like everyone else. Lets see the College get their family time and free time taken away from them with endless amount of work and see how they like it with no pay raise! We have no time for CPL.

Been in the field for 28 years. Working conditions, wages and expectations have not improved much since I started. Empty promises of being viewed as a professional when the college was created. Still underpaid and overworked now I just get the privilege to pay 160 a year and be saddled with homework to prove I am doing my job and still 'learning'. Ready to drop the Rece title and be otherwise approved to work till I gladly retire in a few years.

I’m looking for a job that doesn’t cost me so much money and Unnecessary added stress good job to the college and discouraging people from morning to be early Childhood educators. Quite frankly you should be ashamed of yourselves. I need more explanation on why these things need to be done and why it cost me $160 a year. Maybe I should start sending the college a bill for my family time that I’ve been missing out on.

After 42 years of being in the field and having my ECE Diploma apparently I can no longer use the title ECE because I decided not to renew my membership. How can the college take away my ECE title? I understand the rece but not the ECE.

We do our work at work with 30 kindergarten children. When there is a P.A. Day we always are doing , thinking and planning activities. So it is wrong to forse us to do CPL WHEN WE ALSO HAVE A FAMILY. I HAVE ELDERLY parents and need to bring them to appointments and not to mention on Fridays I wake up at 5:00 am to get ready for my work day and when my work day is done I need to do groceries for my elderly parents. This CPL is causing stress and we live in a country of freedom and rights and forcing this CPL AND CHECKING TO SEE IF IS DONE IS WRONG. WE graduated and have already studied so what is the meaning of all this. We are in this field bc we love children and each day are helping children develop social emotional challenges. Please understand that we have family to care for and I can not dedicate 24 hours upon 24 hours on this ridiculous CPL. This association isn’t fair! No association does what this ECE is demanding on us and such a low pay and we are nobodies in the schools as teachers get all the applied and they have no clue about early learners. They are only interested in their silly curriculum which causes frustration in young children. Please stop this hassle, give us our freedom to be with our family on weekends and evenings. No time for CPL!

The fee I’m fine with, the CPL I’m not. It’s too much to do in our own time. That makes it hard when you have a busy life. I’m all for professional development, but not like this.

We are always, reading pertinent resources, investigating and reflecting on our practice. Though we are professionals we are neither treated or paid as such, the expectations of our job has increased, we are forced to apply for E.i , getting paid for approximately 40 weeks yearly and yet we are expected to do an increasing amount of work to prove our professionalism. It is not right.

I agree and support professional learning. I think the fact that we can provide documentation to show that should be enough. Teachers get paid a whole lot more than ECEs and they arent required to do anything to maintain their qualifications. We do performance appraisals in our employment, therefore are setting goals etc.
What the college is expecting is (in my opinion) quite ridiculous and is definitely discouraging people to join or stay in the field
