For a profession that makes so little we pay so much for our membership . $160 is unreal and I’m sure a lot of people stress about this payment and struggle to make it. As far as the CPL most people chose this career because they’re passionate about it and are probably already doing many different things to stay current with information or taking an interest in something that would be new learning and information. Many people are giving up time spent with family to complete the CPL, I think that having to do some PD during our work hours and sending in a certificate of completion could be an idea to look at.

I believe professional development is crucial for all RECEs, however feel that the requirements of the CPL add too much paperwork on members that already are using personal time to plan for their programs. There needs to be a simplified version

It isn’t helpful at all and in no way helps me be better at my job.

It’s giving me stress instead of giving me some relaxation

I have zero issues with continuing learning and going to workshops on the little free time that I have. But with working full-time and having my own program planning I have to do (that is done half the time on my own time at home), I have 2 small children that also need my attention along with my home life obligations. It is very hard to set a hour or 2 of "free time" to be able to do all the paper work that is needer for this. Now I have to worry if my standings is good to continue to work, I need to be able to work...

I believe in continuing education and bettering ourselves for our profession. Not all courses give a certificate to ‘prove’ I completed it and most courses are costly. On our sad hourly wage and a family of 5, I can’t afford them. I was offered the 3 month self regulation course for free. Finding the time to do it was difficult but so worth it. If the college and boards were able to do more free courses, I would gladly give them my time. For the fees we pay, we don’t even get a card anymore. To prove I’m a RECE, I have to pull up the website each time. Frustrating. I don’t know what the college offers us for our money other than more work (CPL forms).

CPL is taking what little free time I have from my family! I have 3 children, one of which has autism and needs me!

I believe that we should autimatically be eligible for membership every year free of charge unless we breach our roles through professional misconduct. I am from the UK and never had to pay fees or do additional work. We took part in professional training because we wanted to update our skills .

Seems like we are being asked to do a lot of work on top of being stressed that we already do a lot of work as an ece. We don’t get paid enough and we aren’t recognized in our field as important so why are we being asked to jump through so many hoops for it. Seems like we deserve more if we have to work so hard for it. It’s frustrating that we pay and yearly fee and have d see o much added work and stress to deal with for it.

ECE do not make enough money to be required to do all this work. After a long day of work, where we do not get prep time, we come home and have things to do with families/ extra curricular activities. There are also many times where I come home and have to do things for work on my own time for the next work day, because again, we do not get prep time. I am not sure what we are paying the college of ECE for since no one can get their membership renewed on time even though it is sent months in advance. We ECE do so much more work than the teachers, we spend a lot more time with the children yet we get paid so little and have to do a CPL on top of this. I do not have time during my already busy and hectic work week the last thing i want to think about is having to come home and squeeze in time to do this CPL or risk not having my ECE renewed. That is ridiculous. This is why SO many ECE are leaving this field. We are undervalued, unde rappreciated and under paid.

I studied years ago with the great visionary Elisabeth Van Stamm and her vision was not at all my or my fellow ECE reality . Her vision was for us to be leaders and respected amongst our peers and co workers .But this is not the case we are being bullied and subjected to scare tactics to receive our money for zero support in our field .The one thing we advocate for in our classrooms is equality but amongst our fellow ECE in our college we ourselves are being bullied and not getting the respect and support that we are paying our 160 fee for but instead we are fearful for our jobs that most of us need to support ourselves and anyone affiliated with us .My fellow ECE at the College SHAME ON YOU !! I feel you were taught something better than this when you were in your college and ECE programs. I suggest that you go back to when you started out and what you were taught and think again about if this how you envisioned being treated . For the the survival of our field striving for better for your fellow ECE I urge you to consider a better plan for your purpose and your role on leading your fellow ECE than Bullying and scare tactics.

We are charged way too much for our income. The renewal process is always a gong show and nobody is helpful. Accusations are laid without talking to the member first. I’m constantly frustrated with them!

As many others... single mom, two jobs....I don't have the time to do this extra work.

I agree totally. In today’s climate of teachers rotating strikes and us taking children so they have a place to go .. we are the ones who care! Do teachers have to do the things requested of us? No the Boards pay for their Criminal Records etc. They have so much time off to re group and much shorter days. I’m not saying we are equal but come on people quit putting more baggage on the people who get paid so little and do so much! Maybe we should go on strike ( not for more pay though it’s needed but just so we can have a life when we finally do get home after 9-10 hrs)

I am all for professional development. I think that it is very important to continue gaining knowledge to not only better ourselves as educators but for the children that we work with as well. That being said, the college needs to review the system in which they have set in place for educators to “track” this professional development. It is tedious and frankly we could be using our time more efficiently. Thanks.

Eces dont make enough and I feel like I am paying money for people to send me a couple flyers in the mail and do nothing else for me. Its a shame. They put so much hype on how the college would do great things for eces, still waiting!

I would appreciate a simplified documentation process. As someone who has always highly regarded PD and dedicated extensive time to it, this process actually takes away from the time I can participate in workshops/training because it is now a huge effort to compile everything. My husband is also a member of a professional organization and does not have to follow such an arduous documentation process because there is professional TRUST. The same can be said for my OCT colleagues. They also are not required to follow such a labour intensive process and get paid twice our income. RECEs are being treated like children.

I agree, we do need personal development but we do not need this added stress in our life with the CPL. And to pay a membership every year for what? I don’t know.

I love doing professional development, but not all this added work and the threat that goes with it if we don't do it.
