The college does not help anyone and often loses our paperwork if it is mailed in. 3 people at my centre have had to pay the reinstatement fee when we mailed in the paperwork on time.
The college is a joke and needs to be replaced!!

I truly feel it is unnecessary . We have no time for additional tasks on the weekend. Plus this is an extremely stressful year with the cuts to the education system. CPL alone with strike days for thousands of ECE teachers is causing unnecessary demands and stress on many of us. Please
Stop these requirements.

I have been a part-time post-secondary student in early childhood studies for the last seven years. I have earned my undergraduate degree and half way through a graduate program, why do I need to jump through this hoop to receive my registration to the CECE, which I pay for incidentally. Enough, time to rethink what the purpose of the CPL and what exemptions should be made available to members.

I have been an ECE for 10 years. My mom was an ECE and worked in a child care centre my whole life. It's pretty much in my DNA. But I am burning out. I am a mom of a 3 year old. Since being back at work I have struggled to keep up with life. I work with 24 preschoolers (too high of a number for one classroom if you ask me). I have many different children in my classroom with challenging behaviours and special needs. A handful of these children require one on one attention....yet there are only three of us in the room. I work all day, planning activities to keep them busy and learning through play. Then I go home to my child, take care of her....get her to bed...and then crash. Because I am mentally and physically exhausted. Then I get up to start it all over again. When am I supposed to fit in professional development?? On my weekend when I finally get a chance to breathe?? Giving up my chance to spend time with my daughter and husband? Giving up chances to see friends??
What I don't understand us why we get paid less (by the way, I really need a second job. .but literally have no hours in the day) but have to pay more for the college than actual teachers pay for their OCT. Also, why do they get professional development days (paid for that matter) when we have to use our our precious spare time, unpaid. And, we have to fork out money for each and every single workshop we go to...which aren't cheap. On top of that....we have to work on our CPL....again on personal time.
And where does my annual membership fee go to??? I've seen the breakdown.....and not at all impressed. This needs to stop. Instead of forcing us to do more, the college should be helping and supporting us. Not breaking and tearing us down.

I graduated 25 years ago and received my ECE diploma which makes me a professional without the “College of ECE’s”. I lived in Switzerland for 2 years and worked in the field there, came home to having to suddenly sign up and pay an annual fee to be considered an ECE. No. I received a diploma and had 15 years of experience by this time, my reputation proceeded me. I am no longer in the field for this reason. It was not right and should have been graduated in. I will fight for your rights fellow ECE’s!!

What about the qualified ECE who has taken time to meet the expectations of the AECEO qualifications.
I have been in the field for over 40 years. I teach ECE teachers and mentor over 40 staff and supervise 2 school campuses.
As mentioned by many others, I put extra time into my work as it is. You are asking us to take even more time from our family life, which is already suffering on a back burner. We never go home on time and most of the time employers do not pay the overtime when an ECE is asked to stay longer until ratios are met.
We do not get paid enough as it is.
Why should I be doing CPL, I have nothing more to prove that I am a professional qualified ECE. There should be exemptions such as, if you have qualified for the AECEO, we should be exempted from CPL. Through joining the AECEO, we have already been through testing and approved as professional ECE's.
I have nothing more to prove. I have no time left to spend on writing answers to question well below my level of experience and knowledge.
CPL is something that would be beneficial or even helpful to new ECE's for the first couple years or re testing at the 5 year level, but to demand that all ECE's participate is a rediculous waste of precious little time left in a long day with already high expectations.
How are you planning to penalize those who choose to not participate? Take away our qualifications? As it is, we cannot find qualified ECEs for our schools.
I thought the purpose of the College was to support us?
Bring on the punishment, this is not what we signed up for!
How many other jobs require expectations like we are faced with?
We are already over regulated and drowning in paperwork.
Once upon a time, the children were the focus, childrens learning and safety was the most important. Knowing families and assuring care for our children. This field is making huge mistakes.
Just as we see each child as an individual, you need to look as each ECE on the same individual b

I’m am very much about growing and learning to become a better teacher although I feel that all these new demands and paperwork are not helping us become better teachers. It is taking time away from providing better programs to the children as we are spending time writing theses yearly sheets. We are spending less time with are families. I also feel if we are paying it should be for new resorses for ECE. NOT MORE WORK!!!

I am working full time with a part time salary. I am a family resource provider and struggle with making payments towards these huge increases for the licensing. The fact that we could lose our licence for not completing the cpl on time is a huge threat to me and my career and insulting.. I have been an ECE for over 15 and feel like things are just getting harder to stay afloat. How can we change this system and the process? I want to learn and improve my career but not when there is a ticking time bomb!
Thanks

I fully support professional development but the stress of the CPL is what I don't support. I'm not sure about right now but at one point we were paying more than teachers pay for their college and they make way more than we do. The teachers also have their renewal all at the same time, Our college is so mixed up with renewal times. maybe they should switch to this system as well.

I sure this gets sent to the College and they read this and make changes. There is a lot of feedback on here from the members and those voices should be heard. Members should be treated as professionals and this system is far too much work and “college-directed.” It does not make members feel like professionals at all. Simplify the expectations to a number of hours of PD expected over a specified time span. Members can record dates/ times/ save receipts/certificates. That’s ample extra work for us. Other professional designations do not require this much work from their members.

The College of ECE strives to have R.E.C.E's recognized as professionals, yet we pay an expensive annual fee and have to keep up with CPL on top of an already extremely fast paced/ underpaid and at times stressful job. We don't even receive a card with our registration number anymore, how professional is that? If the CECE doesn't even provide us with recognition, how can we expect it from families and other professionals? I'm all for professional development but this stressful and confusing cycle isn't my idea of meaningful learning.

As a person that is about to take a year off to do my Masters, I am seriously considering not renewing my membership. It is expensive without any visible benefits and the added pressure to do PD when we already are committed through work to do PD is too much. Not to mention the nightmare of this portfolio we have to keep. These requirements are really pushing me towards a new career.

So many have already said what I feel. We pay more for our membership than OCT's do, and get paid way less, and what do we get in return, webinars, newsletters and now mandatory extra work to prove that we keep up with our professional development. My employer's, families' and coworker's consistent praise and referral should be enough. And why audit, that's just adding unnecessary stress and making our jobs more difficult than need be. I can guarantee most of us are doing the CPL all on our own time and often paying for workshops out of our own pocket.

I love to learn and love to keep up to date with my profession. I like having the CPL as an outline to do this and a guide(tool) to assist me. I do not agree with it being mandatory and stressful to think about it being audited. I don't understand why our profession isn't treated with more respect and assurance that we are all professionals and we conduct ourselves that way. These are trying times and there is so much stress put on us as educators and battles to fight and issues to conquer, we need to feel supported not judged and micro managed. It feels like we are rolling a boulder up hill with this one.
