This seems a completely perverse activity given the decline in eel numbers.

When I first encountered elvers in the Severn estuary they were caught by local for personal consumption, practice that had been carried out for generations and had an utterly minimal effect on on the species. The EA needs to act quickly reduce or stop the commercial take whether for export or internal consumption.

It cannot be right to continue to export these eels when they are on the danger list . They are important for our river health as well as in their own right. Thankyou for giving careful consideration to this petition.

we now have a few eels in the river calder which 40 years ago was and open sewer and the most polluted river in englandwe also have sea trout and salmon let nature recover before taking profit on endangrd spieces

Eels have been considered to be endangered for some time yet licences continue to be issued to exploit the stock of eels and elvers in the UK and elsewhere within the EU. Action must be taken now and the fishery closed with immediate effect.

Never mind Brexit, lead from the front and do the right thing. Eels may not be fluffy but they are a very important part of the eco-system and it is imperative they are protected.
