Eels are becoming an endangered species when I was young you could easily catch them in any river or canal or most lakes now you rarely see them.

I have been baffled how we complain about the lack of eels (and elvers) in our rivers, yet each season there are many elvermen catching them and taking them to UK glass eels for export - worth more than their weight in gold I understand :(
